Bad factory ammo

What would have happened if I'd fired this round? It came out of UMC mega pack. Thank goodness I was messing around with the photo in my sig line and noticed this cracked case. Might I have had a KB?

Brain cramp. I guess it wouldn't have caused damage unless the factory double charged it somehow.

I just started reloading, and things like this make my heart beat a little faster these days. Now that I think about it, as long as it feeds and extracts, it wouldn't have caused a problem other than I would have tossed it when sorting my brass for reloading later.

I'm a bit conservative and will say to not shoot it since you haven't said what load you used. If it is a minimum load it might be ok, but a higher pressure load could split the case. Use a bullet puller and recover the bullet and powder anyway!

It was a factory load that was damaged. I did pull the bullet, however, and used it on one of my reloads already.

Bad factory ammo is rare, but I had some Fed Hydra shoks a few years ago with cases slightly crushed. I take a harder look at all ammo now.

I definitely wouldn't shoot it or use the powder for reloading. Internal ballistics can be unpredictable.

The split was far enough up on the case that the chamber would have contained it,There would have been no kaboom,but I wouldn't intentionally shoot a bad round,I have seen cases that have split upon firing before and caused no problems

The round would have fired and possibly, you would have had the brass stuck in your chamber.
