Just got this email from the Round Rock TX SW;
Today I received news that we will be closing our store. There will be a liquidation process that I do not know the details on as of right now. As soon as I get more information I will let all of you know.

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your support over the past few years. My experience here has afforded me a great deal to be thankful for. I have been blessed with new friendships and relationships because of my tenure with this company. I also have had the pleasure of working with and leading some wonderful employees who have proven to be just as good people as they are workers. I care about all of them very much. If there are any employment opportunities you may know of for any of the folks at our store please give me a call or send me an email. I would do anything for the people in this store.

If any of you would like to stay in contact with me my email address is supchurch1@austin.com and my phone number is 512-913

Sincerely,

Can't confirm, but can say it would not surprise me. Their Lewisville location - my favorite toy store - went away a couple of years ago.

I was in a Sportsman's Warehouse in Grand Junction, CO last summer and was impressed with the spread in general and the handgun selection and prices in particular. Of course I couldn't buy any handguns because of the out of state DL thing.

I wondered about the two in Texas because I never heard mention of them. I guess I now know the reason for the silence.

I bought a S&W 1911 for $700 at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Lewisville when it was going out of business. I was sad to see it go. They had much better prices than Bass Pro or Dick's, and unlike those 2 stores that limit what they carry based on politics (Dick's not selling handguns) or image (this particular Bass Pro doesn't sell or let you shoot EBRs or any other semi-auto rifles on their range).

I bought 3 firearms from the Lewisville store:

• H&K USPc .40
• Savage 10FP-HS Precision .308
• Bushmaster Varminter .223/5.56

I was sorry to see them go too, but even back then, I heard Rumors that the Round Rock store might be next.

We had two in San Antonio - one of them closed down sometime ago. There is still one left however, I am not sure if they will stay open much longer either. Their Gun selection has eroded away to almost nothing - same for their ammo selection.

Maybe they'll be replaced with a chain that will actually spend some $$$ on inventory..

I am on the mailing list for Sportsman's Supply and I got the same email.
That's as close to a confirmation you are likely to get.

I bought a couple of Glocks at the Lewisville store before it closed -- I never understood why they didn't advertise, and that seemed to me to maybe be part of the reason they closed. I would never have heard of the store if I hadn't read about it in an online forum...

Kind of like Cabelas Lite or Academy plus a little bit of REI, only with REI prices on Academy products.

If you are going to open a big chain store like Sportsman's Warehouse, you can't afford to do so and compete with Academy on the same exact merchandise at 10-20% higher prices. Period! This is business 101. I liked Sportsman's Warehouse because they didn't hide the ammo behind the counter and they seemed to be a little more helpful at the counter. But not enough to pay that much extra.

I liked the one in Lewisville and really miss having it there. They even had a 'CHL's welcome' sign on the door. I also thought their gun area was better than Bass Pro or Cabela's. Prices seemed a lot better anyway.

That's too bad. I enjoyed shopping there. My father in law will not be happy, he buys reloading supplies there when they have them in stock.
