In search for night sights for my Kimber custom II..

Haven't even fired the gun yet and I'm already regretting that I did not order night sights for it... Do I really need one?? I just find it easier/faster to shoot w/ night sights as it helps my 50year old vision. Anyway, is it best to ship my slide back to Kimber and have one installed, take it to a gunsmith or live w/o having night sights on this gun??? Somebody recommended Dawson Precision rearsights and said it's an easy installation but while I've been to their website, I really can't imagine how they work and what kind of sight picture to expect.. I appreciate any thoughts/inputs ...

Question is, do you get the 12yr warranty on the sites if you don't have Kimber install them?

We could go to the range, and you could try the Meprolight sites on my Warrior and see if you like them.

Like I need a reason to *go* to the range... hehheh.

Kind of a headache to add sights to kimber - I've heard it's almost impossible to do so w/o sending it kimber.

I might be wrong though.

My info was from the 1911 armorer at DFW GR - the guy really knew his stuff. I think he's overseas now for a bit, but txi would know better than I would.

Guys, They are tough to replace. Sent my brother's Kimber to two different "smiths", both failed to budge the rear sight. So, I sent the slide to Kimber, and Kimber installed the nite-sites, for a very cheap price (I think it was like $35?) Took less then 2 weeks total to have the slide back. However, I think Kimber only installs their brand of nite sites.

Kimber machine pressed their sights in so they are very difficult to remove. Sending it back to Kimber for them to install will be your best bet.

Not sure about Meprolights, but Trijicons have a 10 year warranty. It also depends on the color of the night sights. The orange sights have a shorter warranty than the green ones. I think it's 5 years on the orange ones.

Umm, I've heard many times that Kimber sights were difficult to replace but I've replaced factory sights on three Kimber's that I've owned with no problems. But it's also important to remember that after market sights often have a little extra material left on them so that you can file or mill off just enough to make a secure fit. That means you often can't just pop new sights out of the package and bash them on to a gun with a hammer.

Edit to add: FWIW, I really like Heinie Straight 8, Slant Pro sights and that's what's currently on my remaining Kimber. The other setup I found that I like is a single tritium dot up front with a plain black rear, preferably a Novak or Heinie.
