When will we know whether OPEN CARRY becomes legal in TX?

I know there's a vote in the legislature coming when is it

How do you feel about open carry? Tx is one of only a few states that disallows it most states only care about concealed. I personally would only do it while camping and hiking in remote areas for fear of mountain lions or a big angry buck(not that a 9mm is going to stop a buck anyway). It'd be nice to have it more accessible in those situations.

The next opportunity will be the 2011 legislative session. Whether it's viable then depends on the backers offering a better approach than was put forth this year.

When and if it happens, it will likely take effect on Sept 1st of the year it is passed. In the months between its passing and implementation, there will be hundreds of newspaper and TV reports. No way anyone can miss it.

To second responder: why the hate towards open carry? What are arguments against?

It's a peeve more than hate.

If a new member, like yourself, had done a simple search for "open carry", you would have found many existing discussions where everything has been hashed out over and over. If, after reading everything, you could offer any new insight, it would have been welcomed.

The 'search' function is your friend. Use it before you create new threads.

Open carry is already dead this year. There happens to be an existing thread with that title.
