IDPA 5 gun classification. Anyone here?

I am on my way. I want to achieve the 5 gun classification and I have 3 to go.
This morning I shot a classifier with my Glock 17 and made Sharpshooter. That makes me SS in CDP and SSP. Need SSR ESR and ESP now.

Is there anyone on this forum that's done this or trying to do this?

No, but that is a worthy goal. Heck, I have shot in 3 or 4 matches and I am still UN. In every category. I wonder if I could classify in every pistol category with a 1911 style...

You could get 3 of the 5. It'd be hard to pass off any 1911 as a wheel gun. I've seen some loose equipment inspections but not THAT loose.

I did specify pistol category... 3 of the 5 are pistol. 2 of the 5 are revolver.

Speaking of loose inspections... I actually (unintentionally) shot an entire match illegal until I got caught in the last stage running my CZ-97 in 10+1 SA first shot. Apparently there isn't a category for that if you are shooting a .45acp... I should have been either DA first shot or 8+1.

My wife was the first woman classified as a 5 gun. You would need a minimum of three guns to complete the 5 gun classification:

A double action or safe action pistol for SSP
A 40 caliber or less single action, double action of safe action for ESP
A 45 ACP single action, double action or safe action for CDP
A moon-clip revolver shooting 165,000 power factor ammunition for ESR
A speed loader fed revolver shooting 125,000 power factor ammunition for SSR

You could use one gun to meet the requirements for SSP and ESP but not CDP
You could use one gun to meet the requirements for SSP and CDP but not ESP
You could meet both revolver requirements with a 45 ACP revolver that shot moon clips for ESR and 45 auto rim in speed loaders for SSR

A 45 ACP 1911 can ONLY be used in CDP

I saw that on IDPA.com. Congrats to her! In fact I was just telling my wife about it earlier.

As I understand the rules, all the classifications have to be the same level. How hard is it to control that? I hadn't even though about it until I ended getting the same classification in SSP that I have in CDP. I've have less than 2 hours at the range with my G17 but have been shooting a 1911 since I was a teenager, yet my final times were only 1.28 seconds apart.

Now if I go to a classifier with my 625, I have to make SS for it to count. Same for my G22 in ESP and 686 in SSR.
SVRA, what do you and your wife suggest I focus on to control my time closely?

Kalrog, Correct a DA 1911 like the Para LDA can shoot CDP and SSP.

HV, Regarding controlling your time, I just shoot is and let the time fall where it does. If you shoot the classifier as designed, which is to shoot it at a speed where you ballance your points down and your speed, you should have no problem. The differences in the time allowances in each division are such that you will classify pretty much the same across divisions. I've never seen a need to control my time to keep me from getting a higher classification, but I have had to put in extra practice to get my classifier score in one division up to other divisions. I am still struggling to make expert in CDP.
