Legislative Alert - URGENT!
Dear XXXXX,

We need your support in Austin: - Urgent Action Requested

(To read the bill please click on underlined link)

This week Representative Stephen Frost (D-Atlanta) filed HB 1301 to allow Texans, eligible under state and federal law to possess a firearm, to have that firearm and ammunition in their personal, locked vehicle on their employer's parking lot.

House Bill 1301 is identical to SB 730 filed last week in the Texas Senate by Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and both are similar to laws passed in neighboring states of Oklahoma and Louisiana.

This important legislation would allow concealed handgun licensees the option of personal protection on their trip to and from their work environment; as well as protecting the jobs of hunters and sport shooting enthusiasts.

Big Business will argue this measure infringes on their property rights and contributes to an atmosphere for violence in the workplace. We submit that the legally owned contents of an employee's vehicle should not be within the employer's realm of control. In addition, there are no facts or statistics to support their allegations.

HB 1301 provides immunity from liability except in cases of gross negligence for employers for damages resulting from the storage of firearms in locked, private motor vehicles in their parking areas.

HB 1301 does not prohibit an employer from regulating and enforcing policies banning the possession or the carrying of firearms INSIDE the buildings of the business or the workplace.

Please contact your State Representative and urge them to co-author and support HB 1301 by Frost.

Contact your state representative

Sincerely,

Alice Tripp
