Hello folks,

Can anyone make any Range recommendations? Not Quail Creek, please. I'd like a place to shoot rifles, but mostly I would like to shoot FMJ rounds. Thanks guys,

Another option is a lot further out - Tac Pro out in Mingus. I still have to visit them - I'd like to do a lot more rifle-work at a distance.
Minor correction... I'm pretty sure the Tactical bay at Elm Fork is 35 yards, not 25. That's what the RO told me - as if that would make that much difference with a centerfire rifle.

Well yes, I meant fire FMJ -through- my rifle. Obviously I won't be taking pot-shots at bullets with bullets. :P

7.62x54R just costs too much to purchase hollow point or soft point ammunition. I'm afraid FMJ is my only route at the moment, and so I just need a place to unload all this ammunition.

Gibsons Outpost and Shooting Range on Lawson Road in Mesquite used to allow FMJ and as far as I can tell, still does. They are located directly across from the speedway (I think it's "Devils Bowl") and just up the street from the catfish farm. They also had a couple of 200 yard lanes. Its been a few years since I was there so be sure to give them a call to confirm before driving out there.

Be sure to let us know what you find. There are those of us who also like to take advantage of less expensive ammunition.

Well I did some searching and found this:

http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15238472377" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seems it's a great range, but the owners are complete jerks. So... decent shooting and FMJ friendly, but complete jerks for owners...

Magnum Sports Center up in Sanger (Denton Co.) allows long range FMJ rifle shooting. The hours are sometimes restricted by special events held there, so I suggest calling before making the drive. Contact info is:

I've seen the referenced posts and can't comment other than to say its been several years since I was there. However my last experience was quite enjoyable and I had no problems with the management.

Most of the time, I go to the range to shoot and spend very little time socializing with the help or speculating about their personal life as some of the posters on Insiderpages seem prone to do. I've always found it a safe and well maintained place to sight in my rifles and I've never had a negative encounter with their staff. But, that's my experience and it's been a while. I may just have to give them another shot (sorry!) and see how things go.

Hey, thanks Excaliber! That's perfect. Only 31 minute drive too - not bad at all. Thanks a bunch!
