Lots of ranges have the 2 second rule but do not normally enforce it for double taps.

That being said, I have never been to Quail Creek and I will never go there.

I agree - every single range I've visited this century has the two-second rule.

Um... that'd be one range, BTW.

This threads been going a while... I was amazed to see that people have such problems at this Quail Creek range. Living in San Antonio, Ive shot a lot of different places, Blackhawk, Bullet hole, Place to Shoot and Bracken. I wanted to comment on Bracken range... those folks and the Quail Creek people could be kindred spirits as Bracken is pretty damn rude as well. Ive seen them berate shooters for not moving fast enough and threaten others with removing them from the range for something like firing 3 times rapid. They were rude years ago, and they are still rude today. I think they believe they have it made because they are always crowded with shooters so they think they can be rude jerks whenever they want. Im going to try Cedar Creek next time as I see that a number of folks like it.

I have some land in the country near Athens where I do nearly all of my shooting. We're thinking of putting it up for sale, but think maybe I won't now. I remember now how much of a pain some gun ranges are. :rules:

I popped into Quail Creek Saturday just to check them out since it would be almost a halfway meeting point between me and my step-dad.

We'd already made the mistake of sauntering into the Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville and discovering just how expensive it is to be a member there (who says there's a recession? Five grand a year and they still have a six-month waiting list!). Those folks were really polite and nice, even offered to give us a tour. But then for 5k a year you'd BETTER be nice to the customers...even the potential ones.

Anyway, I browsed the little shop at Quail Creek and asked if they sold any cast bullets for reloading since I saw a few cans of powder on the shelves. The three 'good 'ol boys' at the counter laughed and one said, "If we sold those, we wouldn't have any in stock, just like everyone else."

I told them I was looking for some place to shoot where my step-dad and I could meet halfway. I asked if it was possible to walk down to the pistol range and observe for a couple of minutes. I was told, "You'd have to sign our liability release before you can walk across the bridge." I said, "Okay, I'll sign it." Nobody moved to get the form, so after an awkward couple of seconds I said, "Well, never mind." and left.

Now that I've read this thread we'll just keep on shooting at Elm Fork. I'm not going to take a chance on my step-dad being yelled at by some inflated RO. The guys at Elm Fork and I have always gotten along great, and I've seen them swarm (in a very helpful way) every time a newbie comes along with that special bracelet indicating they're first timers. They don't but in or offer advice unless you ask for it, and they always compliment me on my shooting if I happen to have a very good day and do well.

I've had my share of being yelled at and berated by range officers, but that was when I was in the police academy and had to take it. I won't pay someone to do it to me. Even though Elm Fork is a couple of bucks higher, I'll stick with them. I shoot EVERY Saturday (guess that means the other seven days get to live "rlol" ).

You got me. I never was any good at math, and my momma always said life was like a box of chocolates...
I'm even more embarrassed that I was backed up by the Beatles, but thanks!!! I would go edit the original, but that would be cheating and dishonest, which would put me at risk for being appointed to a cabinet post.

As a bonus, I don't know if they have any sort of rapid-fire rule, but I've never heard of them saying anything as long as you're keeping everything pretty much in the target portion of the berm. (and all the berms are oversized, since they do SMG classes too)

I've never been to Quail Creek since I don't live in the area but it definately sounds like a place to avoid! You might want to post this on Texas Gun Talk also. http://www.texasguntalk.com/forums/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you have a program that deletes cookies like a Windows cleaning program, it may be deleted and you will have to log in again. Or, if you have not logged on for quite awhile, your cookie may be expiring. I am not sure how long they are good for.

I too am retired Air Force. First of all, there is no law about saying you are retired military even if you are not. As there is no law against claiming you served in a combat zone. If that were true, there would be some Hollywood types in prison right now. The only law he could break was to claim he had a Silver Star or higher. ie, Medal of Honor.

As for showing his ID Card, that is not true. When you left the service, the requirement to show your ID card went away. Of course you still need to show it on base at certain places. It has never been a rule that service people had to show their ID card on request to another service person.
