Re: Texas Self-Defense & Deadly Force Law Seminar
This is the third request I've had in a week for ladies classes. I am going to repeat a Ladies Self-Defense Informational Seminar that deals with issues of particular interest to women. I'll attach a copy of the announcement that was posted in the PSC Bullseye about this seminar. This is another seminar that will be offered around the State as part of the Texas CHL Forum, Inc. project. This seminar covers the subjects listed in the announcement in a very general way and it gives information on available training, etc. It is a survey-type seminar, rather than an in depth course. I'll post a notice of this seminar in another thread.Tass wrote:Charles,
Loved the seminar! Will you be offering any seminars/classes geared specifically toward women or know of any to recommend?
Tass
TraCoun and I used to do quite a few NRA Basic Pistol Courses in a ladies-only format, but we haven't done one in quite a while now. Until very recently, there just didn't seem to be any demand for that format. I've also had some men ask me about doing a ladies-only CHL course and I've been giving that some thought as well.

Ladies Self-Defense Informational Seminar wrote:Texas passed its Concealed Handgun License statute in 1995 and the program has been a tremendous success. Texas Concealed Handgun License holders (“CHLs”) have a twelve year history of being the most law-abiding segment of Texans, as reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety (“DPS”).
According to the DPS’ data for 2007, women comprise 18.31% of current CHLs. This percentage is up slightly from 2006 (approximately 0.6%), but far below the level that most men would expect. So why do a relatively small percentage of women choose to obtain a CHL and with it the ability to defend themselves against a violent attack? The answer seems to be a combination of a lack of knowledge, an erroneous belief that armed self-defense is beyond their physical and/or emotion capability, and a misunderstanding of Texas laws on self-defense.
To address these concerns, a self-defense information seminar with a special emphasis on issues facing women will be presented at PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood, Texas on Friday, February 20, 2009 from from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The purpose of this seminar is to provide an overview of issues related to self-defense including Texas law, training opportunities, selecting a firearm and method of carrying it, secure storage and carry methods when children are present, and a multitude of other questions ladies typically have when it comes to making such an important decision. As noted, this is an overview of these subjects, not an in-depth study. In short, the seminar is designed to show people what they need to learn and how to do it.
If you would like to attend, please email Charles@TexasShooting.com. There is no charge for this seminar and seating is limited, so please RSVP early. Although this seminar focuses on issues of particular interest to women, it is not limited only to women, so ladies bring the guy in your life, if you wish. Of course, if you want to tell him it's a ladies-only seminar . . .

Charles L. Cotton

I sent an email to Jim Dark to see if there are any conference rooms available for Saturday at the TSRA Annual Meeting and if so, I'll do the seminar there in Mesquite. If not, I'll schedule another trip to Plano and use Carlson1's church he so kindly offered.NTexas_V-Star wrote:I'm interested in attending one of these seminars....as soon as you know, could you post the dates, times, and locations of the ones that are going to be in/around Tyler, Dallas, or Mesquite. Those would be doable for me, depending on the date.
TIA
Chas.
I'll definitely be watching closely for them....especially if they're going to be in Plano, which is just a hop, skip, and jump down the highway from me.
Thank ya sir.
