Baytown PD was there searching bags/purses and had wands at the entrance.

WHAT???

Since when do the police get to make unwarranted searches as a condition of entrance?

I get mad enough when they use security officers to search, because they have police standing right beside them in case anything is found. But at least they're pretending to avoid unwarranted searches by police.

But if Baytown is using actual police officers to conduct general searches of people coming in, that's flagrantly unconstitutional!

No it is not. The police are working for the district, and you can avoid the search. No 4th issue at all.

Why not?

First, the 'business premises' is only the building, it does not apply to parking lots, driveways, playgrounds or exterior walkways.

Second, a CHL cannot carry at 'interscholastic sporting events'. Is graduation a sporting event? Is it interscholastic (does it involve more than one school?)

I believe you can carry on a football field, to watch you son practice. Obviously, you cannot carry in the stadium on a game night.

I carried at my nephew's graduation (in a church - no 30.06 sign).

A church can be considered a school also if it's got a private school as part of it. If his graduation was at a church, I would ASSUME that he attended a private school that was operated by that church? It seems to me that this whole thing is a giant grey area. I'd agree with Chas and the others and leave the weapon in the car.

He did attend a 'private school' but it was at another location. They just held graduation in the sanctuary.

One building could be a school during the week and a church on the weekend. You could carry in the church.

The original question was could you carry in a stadium at a graduation. I think the law allows that.

Can you carry in a church building at graduation, that is a little more gray. Actually, I did not even stop to think. I looked for a 30.06 sign and went on in.

There are a lot of places that wand attendees but you can still carry - FW city hall, TX state fair (I thought it was funny that I could carry 3 guns in the fair but I had to go put my knife in the car. )

Ballgames aren't the only events that will make a football stadium off-limits to a CHL. Any school sponsored event, such as a highschool graduation, will render it off-limits, per TPC §46.03.

think about this:

A club in High School is having a car wash in the parking lot of a local merchant...

That IS considered a school function. That car wash is a NO CARRY zone.
