Arrests
Do we have to include arrests for traffic warrants where we were arrested and fingerprinted even though they are class c violations. When I was younger I probbably got arrested a lot of times between 16-20 yrs of age bc I never took care of unpaid tickets then would just go set them out in jail for 2 nights. That was many moons ago and when i pull my record they dont show up. But on the application is says arrests! Can anyone clarufy?

Re: Arrests
Class C traffic misdemeanors will not disqualify you from a CHL. Failure to disclose any arrest for which you were photographed and fingerprinted CAN disqualify you.
My advice to you is - put them on the application and include the disposition paperwork.

Re: Arrests
put EVERYTHING in there...even if the offense cannot disqualify you it may seem that you are trying to hide it.

Re: Arrests
Like many others here, who may or may not admit it, I am not proud of some decisions I made while growing up and maturing. Unfortunately, I have been arrested approximately 20 times during my teenage years and into my 20's. Most were for drinking related offenses (happy to say I am sober now) and unpaid traffic tickets including public intoxications, disorderly conduct, speeding, driving without a license, no insurance etc....etc. I only listed the class A misdemeanor arrests and convictions that totaled 6 (none in over 10 years BTW). I had no problems with obtaining my CHL. It would have been a very difficult process remembering all the cities and all the arrests. Almost impossible without the help of some professional legal help. I can't advise you on what you should do, just relaying my own personal experience.

Re: Arrests
I paid the tickets by sitting them out in jail untill they were paid. All of that behavior stopped after about 21 yrs of age. I am now responsible and have grown up! That was a long time ago! I dont think unpaid tickets and being arrested for those warrants are bad. that doesnt make me a criminal. It might have made me poor at the time, you know! Was just wondering if I needed to list those since they dont count against me. I have bought several weapons from guns stores latley so I dont think I should have a problem but just wanted some general opinions.
Thank ya'll very much!

Re: Arrests
You are better off listing them. This is a shall issue state. If you meet the eligibility requirements they will issue the license. It does not matter how many class c tickets/arrests you have. Class A/B arrests that are beyond the date range will not prevent you from getting the license either unless they fall within certain categories.
Falsification in any way can get you charged. I'm not going to post the whole section, but I suggest reviewing PC37.10.

When I sent in my application I listed two "arrests" that I was debating on because one of them had no disposition of any kind and was 20 years old. The other one was in a different state, and I went through a deffered adudication process. As far as dates go I put dow "Approximately mm/yy" and I included no disposition information from the court (none existed) and I recieved my license without delay.
I am not a lawyer. YMMV

If there is one thing I have learned in my life, and especially in my career, don't lie. Or don't fail to disclose.

Re: Arrests
Whats disturbing about it specifically? That I have been arrested that many times and am now a responsible, law abiding, mature adult, who has a CHL just like you, or that I received my CHL despite not listing every single arrest for every single little thing? I don't see anything disturbing about either one of those. Just to make things more clear, I did not intentionally withhold that information for any other reason that I didn't think it wouldn't make a difference, and didn't think it would be possible for me to do without legal help. I hope you are not insinuating that you are better than me because of my "colorful past"That's extremely disturbing.
I met all the legal requirements, paid my fees, took the class, (just like you) made an A on my exam and shot a perfect 250 score on my shooting. Good luck Big Mike.

Re: Arrests
I have to agree with 03LightningRocks and Newlife12176. If the 20 arrests had all occurred recently, I might be alarmed. I would hope it would be more cautious than alarmed though. But if they happened ten years ago and he told me he had turned over a new leaf and been good since then, I can accept that. It might have taken a little longer than I would have liked, but I see it as proof that there is something right in the criminal justice system and people can be rehabilitated. Of course, it ususally (IMHO) has little to do with the CJ system and much more with a person's desire to rehabilitate himself.
I think this is exactly why the state says a misdemeanor more than 10 years ago is not a disqualification for a CHL. I would actually like to think a felony should also not be a disqualification after the sentence is done but I recognize the problem with federal laws there. We really need to change the federal law to allow for people who make a mistkae and learn from it.

Re: Arrests
Dang! I thought I had detected the rapier like wit of good sarcasm in O3Lightningrocks comment. Come to think about it, 20 arrests spread over 4-5 years isn't too bad. Heck, if it was one a month, it would have been somewhere between 48 and 60.

Re: Arrests
Yeah, Jim PM'ed me about missing the wit. But, when you have arrested the same person twice in 24 hours, it kind of slips past you. Most people arrested are frequent fliers and once every two months is not nearly as bad as I have seen.
