PM's just sitting in Outbox?

#1

Post by pbwalker »

I notice when I send a PM, most of the time, it just sits in my outbox. I don't know if it reaches the user or not. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes. Some people quit the forum, or are banned. Some don't notice the private message notification.

If you are curious, you can query the recipient's member record and see when he last visited.

Above is correct. Some do not check the PMs. You can also post right under their last post somewhere "you have a PM" & that gets most of the new folks to looking for them.

Well, this is for someone who is quite active here, so I know they have an active account. As soon as I click "Submit", it just goes into the Outbox. I'll try to resend.

You might compare the number of "sent" messages to the number in your "outbox", just to verify that no glitch in the system exists.

Most likely, the person(s) you have sent PM's to...simply have not noticed the "new message" prompt in the upper left portion of the screen. It is fairly inconspicous....and easily overlooked.

Another explanation...is that the PM is being ignored, or the person is inactive on this site.

As previously stated, you can sometimes attract attention to a PM by finding the person's latest post, quoting it....and typing in "you have PM's". We will assume they know this means PRIVATE MESSAGE(s) and not a particular female syndrome. (no offense ladies).

Your PMs stay in your outbox until they are read by the recipient. Once read, then they move to the sent box.

I believe that is incorrect. As soon as send a PM...you can click on the "sent" tab and review your PM's sent even though the message still appears in the outbox (not yet read by person addressed to).

In fact, I just looked at one I sent to LT this morning. It shows up in both my outbox and sent box, but you have to go into the sent box to see it.
