What year, model and trim level is your truck. I was just looking at the console vault site and even though some of the Chevy models have much smaller console storage compartments than others, looking at those photos, even the smallest should hold a GLOCK 21. :confused5
It's a 2004 2500 HD. I bought the console vault for it, and really like it, but it won't fit a Glock 21, barely fits my PT140.

In your opinion, how determined would a thief have to be to get one of those safes out, attached by the cable to some very sturdy part of the vehicle (seat strut, underdash frame, etc.)? I've had cars and trucks broken into 5 times since 2000, so for me it's not a matter of "if" my vehicle gets broken into, but "when"!
Thats the risk we take...I believe it will slow them down...

And about the only time I use it is when I am parked in the garage where I work...Anytime else it is on my person...If the establishment where I go is posted...Well, I just don't go, or find an alternative to those who do not recognize my right to keep and bear arms...I find that there are usually alternatives to those types of businesses...But that is another discussion...

I'd have to go back but I posted a little (very simple) modification you can do to improve the connection of the cable to the box inside that little metal ridge (bracket) that provides the keyed and internal latch that turns up underneath to secure the lid and the contents...It has a picture that shows what I did...You just have to buy a little "screw" type caribener that you can get from ACE Hardware or similar business...That attaches to the bracket, and then the open loop of one end of the cable...

Additionally, I note that you are concerned about theft (smash and grabs)...I do not leave anything in my truck, even in the safe firearm-wise overnight, or for any great length of time...

I've bought 3 that are all similarly keyed...And I bought the large version...And I can fit the full sized 1911 with a spare mag in there just fine...

I would love for you to take a leatherman tool and try to cut this cable...There is something about this cable that reduces the success of that type of cutting...

Now...With that said, I didn't say that the safe is fool-proof...It can be defeated, it'll just take a little longer than the standard smash and grabber would like to spend messing with it...

One other thing...Does anyone think a thief like this will have any effective tools on their person to cut, or pry open a safe like this in time, not to be noticed, or someone to intervene or somehow discourage them from continuing this crime???

Just my opinion...

I found pictures of the inside of your truck http://www.jdpower.com/autos/Chevrolet/ ... 0#imageTop
and it does not resemble any of the photos on console vault website. hmmm!

I have never left mine in the car. So, I am not for sure how to secure it, except on my body. ;-)

The Texas legislature has seen fit to deny CHLs the right to carry at school, so I'm forced with the decision to either travel to and from school unarmed, or armed with my piece left in the car. That's a tough decision to make, so I'm always looking for ways to keep my piece secure in the vehicle.

That would be this post:

But I didn't find any pics! (You mentioned in the next post that you were going to take some pics...) Maybe I missed them?

I carry where it's legal. If someone prevents me from carrying somewhere I think they're ethically responsible for the security of my unattended firearm.

+3 on the center of mass

I bought two at the same time and had them keyed the same. They have served us well.

First...I empathise with your situation...And I can tell you that when "Wife-Unit" receives her teaching certificate at the end of this spring semester, she has already figured out that this method of securing her firearm is sufficient in keeping her firearm secured enough, and in compliance with state law...The firearm will be in a condition of immediate inaccessability to anyone without the key to get into the vehicle, and if they discover the safe will have to spend too much time in trying to find out what is in that "box"...

Second...I have to go look in the archive of my PM's...That is where I believe the photo is...I'll send it to you as soon as I find it...I could send it to you in an email as well...It's somewhere in the HD here...
