No matter how you feel about the person...
If a shoe were thrown at you, what would ya do??? (Be nice, polite and within the 10 yr old daughter rule)

I may have my differences with the man in charge, but they are constructive differences...
Maybe these people would like for us to dig a stinky Saddam back up, give him the super secret elixer of life, and put him back into play...
Ungrateful people...

Re: No matter how you feel about the person...
We went in declaring "Iraqi freedom" and he chose to use his new found freedom to insult our president. The shoes might have hurt if they had actually hit him, but they would not have caused any real damage.
The point of the shoes was not to harm him but to insult him. The arabs view their shoes very differently than we do. Think back to March 2003 and all of the Iraqis taking their shoes off and hitting saddam pictures and statues with them.
We should all be happy that they have taken to freedom so well.
I say, OK we questioned him (I hope we were not stupid enough to do him any harm or allow others to do so) now lets show our love of freedom of expression and protest by setting him free.

I have to agree with tallmike.
I actually like the guy, but not many of his policies.
I think the Iraqis have a right to their opinion; I'd just expect people to treat a world leader with more respect than that, even one they don't like.

I think the President should have his own personal taser.
That would pretty much put an end to this kind of nonsense.
I just saw this ridiculous act of disrespect on the news. Tell ya what, Bush has got pretty darn good reflexes!

These are the same people who blow up schools, cafes, hotels, etc. and fly airplanes into buildings in the name of their God. Don't ever turn your back on 'em.

Re: No matter how you feel about the person...
Did any of you miss this part?
In 30 or 40 years, history will judge him far less harshly than we are doing today.
Who says Bush doesn't have a sense of humor? I've had some disagreements with him, but I admire the heck out of him, and I will continue to do so. I voted for him twice, and I would not change those votes if I could. The thought of either Al Gore in charge on 9/11, or John Kerry in charge when the need for a surge became obvious, gives me the fantods. Bush was not the best president we ever had, but he is a decent and good man, and he is far from the worst president we ever had. (Can you say "Jimmy Carter?") And unlike Carter, you will be able to count on Bush not running around the planet bad-mouthing his successor and helping to promote more hatred of the U.S. Some people just can't keep their yaps shut, and Carter is one of them. I predict that, when Bush fades into a more private life, he will be more likely to emulate his father by being available to succeeding presidents as a valuable resource if they want to call on him, and otherwise staying the heck out of the way.Talking to a small group of reporters after the incident, Bush said, "I didn't know what the guy said, but I saw his sole." He told the reporters that "you were more concerned than I was. I was watching your faces."

Amazingly enough...there would not have been time IMO.Purplehood wrote:Too bad we couldn't get a video of some Secret Service agent taking one for the Prez...
The "shoe throwing" (at least the first projectile) came so fast and unexpectedly...that Bush just had time to "duck it". The second shoe was easier to avoid, but... Bush absolutely stood his ground and moved only the minimum amount necessary to avoid being hit.
To the "shoe thrower's" credit...his aim was excellent...and he has a "pretty good arm".
Al Gore would have eaten both shoes....I am sure, and Barrack would probably just want to sit down with his attacker and find out what has him so upset.

Ahh yes we humans can be so short sighted. How long ago was it that Saddam was in power? What was that again he did to people he did not like? This moron throwing a shoe at the President of the United States should be thankful that he is able to express his feelings with out being turned over to Uday and Qusay. I guess irony is not something well understood in their culture?
