The Spartan is a "meat and potatoes" economy version of the MTAC. The Spartan is tuckable, you can adjust the cant, and you can get additional kydex half-bodies for different weapons, all like the MTAC. It's not as pretty, and the fasteners aren't covered, but it'll save you a few dollars.
Basically is one piece of leather backing. The MTAC has two and covers all the gromits so they wont poke or scratch your side when carried for long periods of time.

Another question I came up with:

When carrying your firearm, has anyone had to buy pants/shorts a size or two bigger or is there not that much of a difference when having the holster in the waistband?

Thanks

I had to buy a new belt anyway just before getting my holster, so I did get a belt size higher just in case I would need it. I had to punch extra holes in it for use without the holster (this was expected), but now after several months, I could have used my normal belt size. I use a leather belt, so maybe it stretched, or maybe I dropped a little around the waist line :). I also thought I was going to want my pants loose for comfort when using the holster, but now as it turns out I like it snug.

I placed my order for a Minotaur MTAC for my 3" Kimber on Friday 11/21. I also ordered an extra holster body for my USP Compact. I called first and was told that it would process faster if I placed the order online. The lady also told me that their production turnaround time was 6-8 days. I will say that the lady was very friendly. Their website is very well done (it appears to be an osCommerce or Zencart build), and they are good about sending out the emails to update the customer. I received both a welcoming email, and a confirming email the same day with the order details. This morning, I received another email with an order update saying:
"We appreciate your order. Our production process is currently running about 11 days. You will be notified as soon as your order is complete and ready to ship."
Reading this thread, it seems like most people received their orders more quickly than was expected. I certainly hope that is my experience. In any case, based on my experience so far, I would do business again with them.

I have a chronic bad back, and it seems to be deteriorating a bit more lately. My current carry holsters - a Galco Royal Guard (Kimber), and a Galco Summer Comfort (USPc) - are tending to cause me additional back pain by pressing into my hip in just the wrong place. I'm thinking that the MTAC will distribute that pressure over a larger area, making it more comfortable to carry. The Galcos are both well made holsters, and the Royal Guard is particularly rugged. It gives the impression that it will last forever. I've worn it almost every single day since I bought it 6 ot 7 months ago, and it looks hardly worn at all.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to receiving my MTAC. I hope it doesn't take 11 days to ship.

Yeah I got that same E_mail in the same day that I got the Your Order has been shipped E-mail. Guess it just depends on what they have in stock.

I ordered mine on a Monday morning and promptly got an e-mail stating that production process was taking roughly 9 days. On that Thursday, they sent me an e-mail stating it was shipping, and I received it on Saturday, for a turn-around time of 6 days. As far as estimating time of your order, I suppose it would be wiser for them to overestimate so that you are pleasantly surprised. I wasn't in a hurry to receive it, but I'm glad that it was shorter than the time they estimated. Overall, great customer service and a very pleasant company with which to do business. I'm definitely ordering from them again.

I hear that. I'm not in a hurry per se... ...I have a holster I can use. It's just not that comfortable for me, so the sooner I can get the new one, the better. But if it takes the whole 11 days to ship, I'm OK. I just hope it doesn't.

Wildscar,

Now that you've owned the holster for about a year, have you noticed any decrease in retention with time? For the other people viewing this topic, if you look at Wildscar's picture of the holster on the first page, the dimple near the trigger guard is the primary point for retention, and you can adjust it with the nearby hex screws. When I first got the holster and was pulling/reholstering my gun I noticed a trace amount of Kydex on my trigger guard and some scrapes on the inside of the Kydex holster at the dimple. I've heard that the retention can fade over time. So far so good for me, but I've only had mine a few weeks. Thanks!

It has actually gotten better. I use to not be able to hold the holster upside down with out the pistol falling out. After a year I can do that. It will still fall if I wiggle it but just turning it upside down will not casue it to fall out. Since I only have one pistol and its always in that holster the leather might help hold it in better. I plan on writing a 1 yesr update for this holster when I get time. Stay tunned.

Hopefully your spare body will fit, mine didn't and I had to send it back.

Well it looks like I'm about to find out. I just noticed an email in my in-box from this afternoon which I hadn't seen earlier:
The following package was shipped to you via the U.S. Postal Service:

Delivery ZIP............76051
Shipment Date...........11/26/08
Mail Class..............Priority Mail
Signature Required......No
Confirmation Number.....91010105212975248xxxxxx
Given the holiday, I don't suppose I'll actually receive it until Monday, but we'll see.

Well I was wrong. My MTAC arrived in this afternoon's mail! I just put it on and it is far and away the most comfortable holster I've ever worn - and I've only had it on for about 10 minutes. It is awesome.

I gave a cursory examination to the screw hole spacing on the additional holster body, and it appears to be OK, but I'll find out tomorrow.

...Oh, and they included some candy, and Tiffany signed the invoice with a handwritten note of thanks and a happy face. You just can't get better service than that.

I ordered a Ghurka Strut secondary clip for my Infidel holster and found the hole spacing did not allow it to be used with the holster I ordered it for. I sent both back and received the holster with a new clip installed just a few days later. I was a bit disappointed in the issue, but both the service and the holster were great and I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

So from November 21 - 28, that was 8 days including a holiday. Not bad at all! I've thoroughly enjoyed mine so far - just waiting for my plastic.
