online application
Don't fill out the online application!!
Stupid me. I figured if I fill out the online application they'll have the information earlier and it will speed up the process.
WRONG!
When you fill out the online application, you have to wait to get a confirmation in the mail before you can mail in your prints, etc.
You don't find this out until after you've submitted the application.
I called to see if I could just fill out another application in writing and mail it with my stuff, and they said no you just have to wait.
Great, I have to wait just to submit my stuff, then wait again for them to process it. This is freakin rediculous.

Re: online application
FYI... I had my packet from the online application in under a week. I did the online application on Tuesday or Wednesday last week and had my packet yesterday.

Re: online application
Thanks Morgan, that's good to know.
I hope I am that fortunate. I'll let everyone know.

Re: online application
The online application is easily the way to go, btw.... for everyone. I just recommend doing it a week or two before your class is scheduled. Then you have everything before you even take the class. If you do the online thing the morning before you go to class or the day before, yeah, you're going to be a little annoyed at the wait. But that falls under the category of "a failure to plan on your part". LOL

Re: online application
I don't think it's a failure to plan at all. The class I took provided all the stuff you needed including the written application and even went through it with you, so when you walked out of the class you could drop your envelope in the mail and you're done. I assumed that if I filled out the online application it would make it easier and faster. I was wrong. They don't tell you you'll have to wait for the confirmation until you've already done it. If I hadn't done that, the state would already have my completed application.

Re: online application
Your instructor should have told you before the class to do the online app, absolutely. And yeah, the online app should tell you that you will wait for a form from the state that you have to send back with your paperwork. Good point.

Re: online application
It has been more than a week since I submitted the online application and have not received a confirmation in the mail needed to submit application materials. Mail only takes 2 days from Austin to Fort Worth. What gives?

Re: online application
Just got a reply from DPS that said it would be another 2-3 weeks before I get entered into the system before they even mail the confirmation before I can send in my application materials. This is all a big load of bull.

Re: online application
I guess whomever sent the email lied, as I received the packet in the mail today. That's +1 for DPS

Re: online application
I did the online appl. Yes, you have to wait for them to mail the packet to you, but I got mine in less than 1 week. Your PIN will be included already. For those that fill-out the packet in class and then send it in, they have to wait on their PIN and they also have to wait until payment clears before it goes on to processing. Online apps are prepaid. You haven't lost any time, but the amount of time you gained is negligible as well. Don't sweat it. By the time you get your plastic, you won't even remember all this stuff.
