Post AWB Currency: Lowers or Mags?

Now that we're the Obamanation, we've all seen how in anticipation of the coming AWB that sales of EBR components are rivaling the frenzy of the Dutch Tulip Bulb speculation.

It's not unusual on the gun boards to read about individuals buying 10 lowers or 20 mags or couple thousand rds of ammo.

So for the hoarders and speculators, which do you think is the better investment: Stripped AR lowers or hi-cap magazines?

Lowers will not do you any good... they have to be assembled into operational weapons prior to any ban. Take a look at the 1994 ban definitions. If you assemble a preban lower into a rifle after the ban, it becomes a postban (illegal) rifle.

Could you provide the exact place in the code where this is? I'm not sure I have found the full text of the '94 ban, but the grandfather clause in HR1022 just says "firearm" and the definition of a firearm in 18USC921 specifically states that term includes a receiver or frame. Since the lower receiver is what has the serial number on it, and is legally the firearm the rest are just parts, including the upper. I don't think the law says you can't replace any parts on a preban weapon, but if it does I would like to see where it says that.

Of course I suppose that a future law could prohibit the sale or manufacture of uppers, especially ones with "bad" features like threaded barrel, flash suppressor, heat shield, etc.

I decided to stock up on some more 20 and 30 rnd mags for my AR and a stash of 17 rnd mags for my G34. Severl of the onlne stores informed me of backorders when I entered the quantities ( and no I didnt enter 100 LOL).

I briefly considered "investing" is a larger quantity of mags and lowers.. but decided to keep the cash.

if the lower is preban, obtained preban, and doesn't change hands after the ban, exactly how would it be proven that a postban rifle was assembled on it after the ban? Even if parts were obtained after the ban, how could it be proven that they weren't replacements for existing preban parts on a preban rifle?

As McCain's prospects were by no means certain, over the past several months I've purchased quite a few hi-caps for my Glocks, which are my preferred personal defense sidearms. I was caught unprepared by the last ban and won't make the same mistake this time. And if, against the odds, there is no ban, well, can't have too many extra mags anyway.
