"And it seems to me that many cops from many parts of this country, such as Kalifornia, New Jersey, Chicago, or Washington D.C., would have no problem with the idea of confiscating firearms from anyone not wearing a uniform."
Correct. That's why New Orleans suddenly had an influx of California Highway Patrol officers (and others) running around to do the dirty work. They're not local (and therefore are unsympathetic) and are more predisposed to a confiscatory mindset.
Soviets did this too, used faraway troops from one side of the empire to do the dirty work of the other.
Think about the UN - will Pakistani troops really have any empathy for US citizens?
I think anyone who beieves LEO's would disobey orders to confiscate guns is delusional. They like the promise of that retirement check someday too much to jeopardize it. And many of them would feel safer thinking nobody else had guns. If guns are ever banned there will be lots of armed protesting. The cops would justifiably feel threatened.
We really won't have to worry about current LEO. the big O is planning a civilian"homeland security force larger than the military".

That was a chilling article. I only wish the rest of the US could only realize what is happening. I was born in a different America, and it is sickening to see how far she has fallen. It is amazing how fast history repeats itself...some never learn!

whoa! Here it is... This is scary. The confiscation squad to be. As well funded as the military. Just as strong, just as well funded... The making of a fascist?
The first thing this bozo, Barack Obama will do is ban concealed handgun carry nationwide. A Democratic dominated Congress will be lock-step with him. Next comes the taking of the guns. Then the knives. The sticks. The slaps. Finally, the hatpins and paper clips. Left are rocks and dirt. He'll get the rocks. The dirt, I gotta fight for.
I may have failed to mention, Centerfire Systems.com has good prices on hi-cap mags. Hi-Caps would certainly be banned again. I got several spares in varying calibers. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ar15_mags.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Semi-Automatic Rifles That are Banned by the Proposed 2007 United States Gun Ban
This is created to show what semi-automatic rifles would be banned if the 2007 assault rifle ban would be passed. At the time this was created, the bill was stalled in congress. The bill is known as McCarthy's Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 or H.R. 1022. It is proposed and supported mainly by the Democrats. This bill is similar to the 1994 assault weapons ban, also known as the Clinton gun ban, which expired in 2004. The only difference between the two bills is that the new ban would make millions of more guns illegal. According to the NRA's web site the ban would include all guns banned by the Clinton ban plus the following.
"• Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)
• Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)
• All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main component, called the “receiver.”)
• All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip.”
• Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)
• Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.
• 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.
H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban."
