Great Day - Checked website and "Application Completed". Seemed like an eternity, but was only 60 days. Compared to alot of the wait times, I'm feeling very lucky (maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket).
It makes me wonder what factors come into play that determine the length of the wait. Factor: Lived in only 1 county (Collin) during the past 10 years. Factor: Worked in only two counties in past 10 years (Collin & Dallas). Factor: No problem with application and fingerprint card. Factor (?) Retired Military (if not a factor, I don't think it hurt). Factor: Called DPS twice to check status, being very polite. (may not be a factor, not sure if it had any affect).
I'm interested in what other factors y'all think may play in getting the appl completed in a decent amount of time.

Congrats wmjstu ~ I think a lot of your factors may be accurate ~ I'm not sure if calling hurts unless your speaking to your processor. Maybe though ~ I have made sure to be polite just in case though ~ it's like getting pulled over ~ no need to upset/anger the person that you need help from.

Congrats again!! :hurry:

Well - I'm in Harris County and I got mine last week (around 70 days I think - math and I are not friends).

I've decided the following factors contributed in getting mine done so timely:
  • Called DPS for status at day 60.
Called my TX State Senator's office in Austin on day 60 to ask for their help.
Donated to TX State Senator's re-election campaign on day 55.
Called State Senator back on day 65.
DPS called me on day 66 to say they were working on it.
DPS called me again on day 68 to say it was in the mail.
UPS delivered my overnight plastic the next day.
So, I guess all it takes is a little grease on the skids... or I was just lucky. But, I have 4 friends who took their class either a month before me or at the same time and they don't have theirs yet.

It's worth a polite call to your state representatives. :thumbs2:
Some call me Fred, some don't.

I agree with ya Fredtubbs, however, it also reinforces what I speculate happens in the daily routine processing between DPS and Harris County. My thining is that niether DPS or Harris County would ever be able to get ISO9000 certification for the pure and simple reason that they don't have a structured procedure for doing business. I'd be willing to bet that applications get processed somewhat randomly and if the "pile" gets knocked off a desk and gets reshuffled into the deck, so be it. I see it happen in businesses all the time. It's a quality control issue, which ultimately is a management issue. Lack of supervision, responsibility, and accountability result in poor quality, be it product or service. Besides, why should either DPS or Harris County be the agency that "processes" the applications? There are companies out there way better equipped to do tasks like this. Sure, Harris County has the information as well as DPS, but why make them responsible for keeping the chain of paperwork going? ALl they need to do is provide information and approve or disapprove a completed 3rd-party processed application. In other words, let somebody else do the legwork. I know I get up on a soapbox, but what the heck else to do while waiting? We as Americans piss out so much money that government agencies use inefficiently it's no wonder taxes are what they are. OK, I AM DONE NOW AND WILL GO BACK ON COFFEE BREAK.

If any of you have been following my posts I have been a little upset over the DPS rejecting my Pics. I cost me like two week of processing and that was frustrating!!!!! :banghead:

Well no more folks ~ I checked the website today and this is what I saw "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" :hurry:

Happy day happy day!!! The only issue is I will be going to Kansas tomorrow for opening weekend of Pheasant hunting (not that this is a real problem) and I was hoping to have the plastic to carry on the way. Oh well ~ at least it's done. I'll update when I get the plastic and let everyone know how the first Wally World trip goes.

Good luck to all that are still waiting.

(Oh I almost forgot ~ I've been waiting for a while to say this ~ Queue the dancing bananas)

Nighthawk,

Because we are all brethren in CHL, here's what I'll do. You hang tight around the house. I'll go do your pheasant hunting for you. I'll even clean the birds and bring you one. If you're worried about the trouble I'd go through for ya, I'll slide by and pick up your credit card and PIN number as well. I'll stay tuned for your approval of this offer............................. :thumbs2:

Hey Nighthawk, I'm doing the same thing...hoping the mailman is early before I leave for Kansas. Unfortunately, I'm just going to see a jayhawk eat a wildcat, or the other way around. Have a good trip, and leave an update on the hunting if you don't mind.

Let this be an ecouragement for those of you still waiting, so try not to get upset.................

My plastic arrived on Monday, yet DH's application was still processing. I checked last night and it shows: Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

He'll be happier when his face on plastic appears in the mailbox. :txflag:
