What do you do when asked?
Choose all that apply to you.
Interested in seeing how others handle this.
Hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm leaning towards the redirect option, depending on who is doing the asking.

Re: What do you do when asked?
I've never been asked; but I would respond, "Why do you ask," and improvise from there.

Re: What do you do when asked?
I've found there could be a huge difference in the proposed situation, if you are an instructor.
Because we can get real happy when talking about concealed carry, and instantly turn the conversation to our favor. Or at least being on the positive side quickly.
We give them a card, ink pens, sticky notepads, etc with our name and number. Maybe send them to our website, verify that yes that is my tv,or radio ad, etc. No shame, embarrassment, or guilt.
I think other holders could go with a similar attitude, maintaining the positive.

Re: What do you do when asked?
I might rephrase it a little along the lines of "why would you ask a question like that?" I like this approach better than redirecting or lying or saying "none of your business." My rational is that by asking them a question you may get some useful information - maybe they see someone who looks like they are going to rob you, or maybe you are printing or your extra magazine fell on the floor or you just left your piece in the men's room.seamusTX wrote:I've never been asked; but I would respond, "Why do you ask," and improvise from there. - Jim

Not enough choices for me, so I answered other. It really depends on who is asking, what their reasoning is, etc. Every case if going to be different.
For example, if it is a friend who has a CHL and we are both witnessing a robbery and he asks if I am carrying, then the question is going to be answered appropriately.
However, if it is some clerk at a quickstop that thinks they see a profile of a gun, then it's none of their business.

I have not been asked either, but I would respond in the same way.seamusTX wrote:I've never been asked; but I would respond, "Why do you ask," and improvise from there.

Re: What do you do when asked?
Depends on who's asking...
If it was someone I know like Charles...SRVA...Anygun...DoubleJ...Kalrog...KBCraig...etc etc
More than likely it would be a question that did not have to be asked in the first place...
It has never been a question asked of me from people I do not know, work with, or even neighbors...
Concealed has always meant hidden from view, out of sight and mind...Not a topic of discussion outside of this forum...
That doesn't mean I do not answer a comment or question from somebody that tells me they are thinking about getting a CHL...Then I certainly tell them I think it's a good idea to get it...
At which point if they do not know who to go to, I steer them to folks I know...Little bits and pieces of the Steve puzzle start fitting at that point without me ever having to say yes or no to the original question...

Re: What do you do when asked?
Other. If it's someone who already knows I carry (wife) and is just checking carry status at the present time, then yes, I'll answer. Police officer when asking for ID at a traffic stop, yes. Friends in a secluded setting, yes. Friends in a crowded restaurant, no. Complete stranger, no. My wife's family knows better than to ask, because they really don't want to know the answer (out of site, out of mind). It really just depends on the people and the place.

Re: What do you do when asked?
It depends on who's asking. I would have voted, but there wasn't a box for that.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Re: What do you do when asked?
I selected all of them because I have and/or would do any one of them depending on the circumstances...
