Maybe this is the reason why your license is taking sooooo long..

I got my letter via e-mail last week and then a snail-mail letter in my mailbox yesterday. I'm sure Galveston, Brazoria, Chambers and Jefferson Counties are certainly adversely effected, but I find it hard to accept that Harris County would suspend this type of clerical data processing flow for lack of resources or hurricane-related hardships. Houston and Harris County offices got their power back on very quickly, and the one's that didn't had generators. I'm sure the storm will be used as an opportunity for the DPS to justify their less-than-stellar processing times. :mad5

Hi everyone, waiting like everyone else. I thought it was interesting that they couldn't start processing my application while they waited for a new copy of my DD214.

Hey all...
Took the class on 9/20
Received in Austin 9/26
Did app online, so have PIN

Question, when I check the status of my application, this is what it says...No application or license/certificate active. Is this normal?

What you'll find is that they use one badly worded sentence in the code to not starting any processing until the packet is complete. And only then do they start the clock.

It would only be considered incomplete though because I pay $70 rather than $140. Everything else was in the application. Since background checks take some time, it would benefit them to start the red tape machine as early as possible. Not that they would every change it, just thought it would be something they could take into account.

It is eerily quiet in the September list. I'm guessing there are not that many of us that submitted this month.

I guess not. Mine still shows processing application and I've not received any calls or letters from DPS so I'm taking that as everything (hopefully) is proceeding as normal with my app.

Holy Shnikes! If this isn't a typo by DPS, I think this might be a record. Just checked my status a few minutes ago and saw those beautiful words on screen: "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". Now all I have to do is see how quick the plastic comes, probably be another week or two but man, that was QUICK! Maybe doing my app online assisted in making it quicker?

Called yesterday and was told its complete and just waiting to be mailed out. Why it may take "a few weeks" to get to me I have no idea.

App sent on September 3rd.

I dunno. I've just heard some people have received their's the following day, some a couple days later and others had to wait a week or two. Hope ours is the 'next day' option, if so Wally Walk will be on the schedule for later today. lol

My first post. Took my class Sept 13 and submitted the paperwork a few days later, with a certified check and a copy of my DD 214 to claim the Veteran's Discount.

A week later, I get a letter from the DPS. Since I was born in Saudi Arabia, I have to furnish proof of citizenship. I am used to that - when I purchased my newest CZ at a gun show the call to get approval for the sale went well until they got to the place of birth question. Then the seller paused, smiled, and said, "Well, he's got blonde hair and blue eyes, so I don't think he is."

The next day, I scanned and printed a copy of my passport and sent that out.

The funny thing is - I worked in communications intelligence in the US Navy and had a very high security clearance. My place of birth (my dad worked for Aramco) and my mother's place of birth (Turkey) caused my security clearance paperwork process to drag on so long that I was almost kicked out of my school since I couldn't do my advanced training without the clearance.

So now the real wait begins I think.

Anyway, I will be spending some time on this forum so I can learn from your experience.

Well fellas, it's been real nice sitting and chatting with you all here in the waiting room but I have some bad news, you're now one member less. I just got in the door early today and checked the mail, nothing but flyers and catalogs but on second look, right in the middle of a Cheaper Than Dirt catalog sat a lone piece of mail from the State of Texas licensing commission. I ripped it open and I got me one of them nice, new shiny CHL cards. :) So I bid you adieu my friends, keep up the faith and I hope that you all receive your cards quickly! I'm out!
