Outside Shooting Ranges in Houston

#1

Post by dwhitley »

I am looking for a place that I can go out and shoot some cans, platic bottles whatever I can with out hurting anyone. I have been going to the range at Memorial Shooting, but really want to get out somewhere and have some fun. Does anyone know of a place that lets you shoot stuff other then a paper target?

D

Not any more!!

There used to be an area near Coldspring, another northeast of New Waverly, one off of FM1725 near FM3081, and then a really nice area that actually resembled a range west of I45 off of either FM1374 or FM1375.

All were barricaded and permanently shut down by the USFS except for the nicer one. It was posted as being open from the end of September through deer season, but I understand that it too has been permanently closed.

The first three sites were primitive clearings with small berms and no supervision. They were popular with class III folks.

Your best bet is to make friends with someone who has a lot of land out in the middle of nowhere.

I remember shooting outside of New Waverly in the 80's...there were some old logging trails you had to follow. So you're saying the state has physically barricaded the logging trails? How can you barricade a state forest that's open to the public?

They installed heavy pipe barricades blocking the entrance to the area.

This is on or near the road where the Russian gymnastics coach has his retreat, so the roads themselves are reasonably well traveled. But the vehicle path that went into the woods to the clearing was not that difficult to barricade.

Greenwood gun club in the Lake Jackson area has an area to shoot plastic bottles. You just have to clean up your mess.

American Shooting Center did have a pistol plate rack.
PSC has a pair of plate racks.
See you at the range

I have a friend who has lots of land out in the willis ( NE Montgomery County Area) where we shoot skeet... they have a spot of land off to the side [abbreviated profanity deleted] pistol/rifle shooting.. I too prefer to shoot at something other than paper targets.
