There was a random shot on DH's target in the lower left.... the fellow next to his left had shots all over his lower right.... Hmmmmmm....
The rest of DH shots were in the center and in the 9 area. That random shot was surely not his.

when i took my proficiency test, the instructor said he was going to have to fail me because there were only three holes in my target and that didn't give me enough points. that being said, i practice with my carry gun more than my AK, AR or any of my hunting rifles. if i am going to trust my life to an inanimate object, i am going to know every molding seam, every spring and moving part in it. and them i am going to take care of it like a fine piece of equipment it is. my biggest gripe is having to clean lint and dirt out of it from carrying it! better lint from boredom than lead from using it in self defense though!

If your instructor failed you because you made three big holes instead of 50 little ones, that instructor needs his license suspended. He is doing a disservice to the CHL.

Yeah same thing happened to me... had 50 or so shots in 9/10 area... 4 others in right hand 5 - 0 area. Instructor said sorry but they are on your target. Could not give me perfect score. I passed but i was a little frustrated with the guy next to me... his target looked like that bad shotgun pattern mentioned earlier.

Exactly, and when they told me the 10-ring was meaningless, I just decided to use the round counts as the number of hulls to have in the air at once. I passed, and had the only .45ACP in the class and the only target with .45ACP holes, so I guess it worked.
Hi guys. I am new to the forum. Thanks for having it. It is a great tool. I just took my initial 3 weeks ago. I personal thought the class was way to easy. We had an older lady on the range who didn't even know how to load the magazine or rack her pistol. She constantly needed help from her husband. Her shooting was below average at best. Her husband said that this was the third time she has shot a semi-auto and probably won't carry. PROBABLY??!! This is someone that should not be carrying until she gets some proper training. Why bother having us go to the range if basically everyone passes? She is either going to get herself or some innocent person killed.
As far as the instructor telling people not to score perfect, why? These instructors go through 100s if not 1000s of students. Is his memory going to be so good that he can remember that a year ago you scored perfect? I doubt if he will even remember your name let alone what you score was. Your application also only states pass or fail not your score. No paper trail.
Just took my wife shooting last week. We are going again this week. I must say I fear for the person who threatens her. Holy Cow. This was her first time shooting and she did friggin awesome. I was so proud of her. Plus she enjoyed it so much she wants to take her CHL class. She carries pepper spray cause she was timid of guns but after some talkin and that shooting session she loves it. So I have no worries about her passing her range test.
But I couldnt agree more. Everyone needs to take their time. Then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. You want to stop the threat NOT the innocent bystander.
