The person working on my app called me Monday wanting more information. She said this was all I needed for the license to be issued. She called back 3 hours later, and said that upon further review, like the NFL, she wouldn't need anything else and had finished processing the application and was waiting for the license to be delivered so she could send it to me.

I learned a couple of things from our conversation. First, I asked her what was really causing the delay, and she said that they had indeed hired more people for data input, but no more who do her job, which is the final stop in the process before the plastic is mailed. With so many data entry people, a big bottle neck has occurred, and they are stuck with what they have now. Background checks obviously come after the data entry, so I imagine there is a bottle neck there as well. Also, she said that an outside vendor makes the actual card, and they make deliveries once a day. She was able to go through the stack and see if mine happened to be in there, but it wasn't. She thought it would be in today since it was on a list of completions, and she said it would go in the mail as soon as it comes in the door.

Hope this gives a little insight into what is going on in Austin.

Sounds like a management issue.

My first renewal took 34 days . . . I've now been waiting well over twice that, but SHOULD get my plastic within the next couple of days.
Original CHL: 2000: 56 day turnaround
1st renewal, 2004: 34 days
2nd renewal, 2008: 81 days
3rd renewal, 2013: 12 days

That's different than what they were saying a couple of years ago. Back then they mailed licenses out once a week. If your license was finished the day after the mailout, you got the privilege of waiting an extra six days for the next mailout. Hopefully she wasn't just telling you what you wanted to hear! Congratulations, BTW, on your pending license!
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Thanks, but I'm not so sure it is ready. I've been checking way too much and it still reads "processing application" on the DPS website. Really I have faith in her and I'm sure it will be on its way soon.

I was actually hoping to find someone who would give me my FEMA card...$2000 can go a long way in what I wanted to buy...

Ammo, generator, chainsaw, etc etc etc...

I was going to go and try to get Charles', Seamus, Jbirds, Anygun, Liberty's and a few others cards...But I came up empty for them as well...Guess we'll have to manage without... ;-)

As far as the delay...And the explanation...Well...If you are waiting, that means you are "in work", you are a lot better off than those who have yet to see the light and even start the process...Be of good cheer, you are already in good company...

But I agree...You can only milk: "Due to Hurricane Ike...blah, blah, blah..." for so long after it happened...

I foolishly let my CHL expire. NEVER again. The last time, in '96, i got it in about 35 days. This time it has been 91 days so far and still no plastic. I have never been arrested, I haven't had a traffic ticket for over 20 years, I spent 30 years in the military where I held a SECRET clearance and due to my job, had to be seen by a shrink every so often just to make sure I could still be trusted . I was screened and rescreened by the FBI numerous times because of my job. Now retired, I have lived in this county for 16 years.
Double J, you can call me a cry baby if you want to, But I think this process needs an adjustment. How stupid is it that Virtually anybody can carry a concealed gun in their car with ZERO checks and balances, but I can't be trusted until some little old lady in tennis shoes says I can. After all, it IS a SHALL ISSUE state, with a time limit that is routinely exceeded.

Never called anyone a crybaby.

if you read through the forum, DPS sat down with some people a while back, Charles was benevolent enough to share with the forum that the process was looked at, and looked at critically, I might add.
you might watch how you say "checks and balances," quite a few people 'roun these parts that aren't real fond of the "reasonable" things...
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

not to be rude but DoubleJ look at page one you called me a crybaby on 9OCT I believe...: no hard feelings.

but I agree with anchor44. as i stated before I have been investigated by the FBI more than once for my job (security clearnace applications...not trouble). If the feds can trust me and have my record on file so should the local gov. again thats just me. They should really look into how they do things...again.

I said "don't be a (picture of crying kid)" in a general sense.
I wasn't talking specifically to anyone before (or I would have quoted them).
there have been a bunch of these threads lately alleging that everyone that works at the DPS is ignant or just doesn't care. we even had a racist thread a while back alleging that someone's color had something to do with how long they run your background check.

if anything, that picture was aimed at the OP, due to his "latest excuse" comment. seems like everytime there's a new "class" of applicants, there's a few people who act like they are the only ones who have ever had to wait for a license.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I was not thinking that we are the only ones waiting, just thought the hurricane line was a strange excuse for the extended time period all applicants and reapplicants are facing.
I hope that the system gets streamlined in '09 so that no one gets a excuse letter.
