Our own liberal rag, The Houston Comical, stopped accepting classified gun ads from individuals and all handgun ads several years back.

But at least they still (for now) carry the gun show ads.

Well, since there are so many people suggesting alternative names that can be accetped, I thinkw e ought to consider this an opportunity to get more people at the same time. So, my suggestions is:

The Original Fort Worth Self Defense Extravaganza.

This might get a few people interested who had not considered going to a gun show.

why not

"The Original Fort Worth Firearm Show"
"The Original Fort Worth Recreational Shooting Show"
"The Original Fort Worth Sport Shooting Show"

This is just rediculous.

Really now. Who doesn't keep track of when the gun shows will be?

I keep the websites bookmarked for all of the shows in this area plus several of the inclusive compilations like Shotgun News.

I usually mark a calendar with all shows within reasonable driving distance six months at a time. Past that and I've had a couple of shows canceled on me!

Plus there are usually enough billboards that I don't see how a show could slip past anyone.

I've never needed the Houston Chronicle to tell me there was a gun show.

But then, maybe I'm a little O/C!

Quote/Question: "Who doesn't keep track of when the gun shows will be?"

Unlike us "firearms enthusiasts" that hang out here, I'd guess that at least 95% of the adult population in DFW does not keep track of the gun shows. We keep a table at the Market Hall show, and yes, I see lots of "regulars", but also many who are there for the first time - very likely from having seen a little ad in the sports section of the DMN.

I haven't bought a copy in over two years. The DMN is really no different than the L.A. Times these days, and I canceled my L.A. Times subscription after they published opinion columns sympathetic to the Taliban a week after 9/11. I haven't bought a copy of that paper since then either, and their subscriber base is hemorrhaging.

Fortunately, newspapers which have made the decision at the highest levels to be in the tank for leftist nonsense are also suffering financially because they are so out of touch with the readers they service. Subscriptions rates are way down at both the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, and it isn't all due to the Internet, since many of the subscribers they've lost don't read the publications online either. The old adage "don't spit on me and tell me it's raining" applies. I hope that all publications which drift too far from the journalistic neutral go out of business. It's what they deserve.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

I think they should all be changed to "2nd Ammendment Shows". If they don't want our money then we should take out an Ad along the lines of Looking For Gun Friendly Merchants to earn Big Dollars. :patriot:

Found this today and thought it was pertinent to post, as it looks at gun shows in TX and CA. I haven't read the whole study (2nd link), but it's definitely leaning in our favor and is done by a reputable university.

You mean, of course, Open Carry, right?

:biggrinjester:

I can confirm 9 emails to DMN, myself and 8 friends sent, with a nice notice that we will no long see the lack of the phrase "Gun Show" as we will no longer be reading their paper.

Down here in the South Houston/Galveston area, I can't drive more than 5 miles without seeing a billboard advertising the next show in Pasadena in giant yellow-on-black contrasting letters. Seems like they're pretty consistent about updating them with the new dates. I also hear radio advertisements starting the week of the show, too. I don't think I've ever read an issue of the Chron, but I did buy one that had me quoted in one of the articles about some Houston Symphony thing, and of course the one with our wedding announcement.

Actually, the Classic Show ad for Big Town was in the sports page right where it belongs this morning.

The ad read:

Hunting and Outdoor Expo
