Carry gun advice
I currently carry a Kahr K9. As you all will no doubt notice, I am a fan of 9mm. The ammo is cheap, leading to more practice, and (at least with the Beretta) I can lay them down fairly fast with reasonable accuracy, though granted, at a static range session. The problem is I am having a little difficulty becoming accustomed to the Kahr trigger. Most of the guns I have shot with regularity have been DA/SA, but again, range shooting with most every round fired SA. Am considering spending the Xmas bonus on either a CZ RAMI, or moving up to .45 and attempting to get my hands on a Springfield Loaded Champion. Not attempting to engage the caliber war crowd, but rather looking for experience with each model. The main concern being something concealable that can be carried cocked and locked. My other option being to just spend oodles more range time with the Kahr, with the difference going to a reissue Fender guitar amplifier. All being attractive avenues for various reasons, I seek the wisdom of my boardmates, and look forward to any input. I thank you in advance.

Re: Carry gun advice
Trigger on the Kahr9 will never be a Champion. You will probably never use the Kahr at 25yrd & at 10ft or closer w/ adrenalin pumpin 10gal a minute, where personal defense happen it is as accurate as a Champion, my A1, a Wilson Combat, STI or Les Baer. (Some will disagree)
Get the Champion & carry it some or every day. Do not discount the Kahr. It does what it was designed to do.
Carry of the Champion or even larger is not as hard as some think. uality gear will hold it steady & tight. The weight is not prohibitive.
You can carry what you want w/ just a few adjustments.
BTW, Go accustic & that will solve one problem.

Re: Carry gun advice
For a carry gun on the cheap that works the way you're accustomed to check out the S&W 6906 or 3913. They can frequently be had for under $400 and you could turn that Kahr into an amp. More important question is Blackface or Tweed?
Re: Carry gun advice
Stick with the Kahr! It is a win win - you get ot have a great carry gun and you have an excuse to go to the range and shoot a bunch of rounds getting used to the trigger!

Re: Carry gun advice
I had a Kahr MK9 Elite 03, which is about as good as a Kahr can get. It was totally reliable and very accurate, but I just never could shoot it well consistantly. The love for that trigger never materialized for me.
I can pick up a 1911, even one with a crumby trigger and achieve acceptable accuracy right out of the gate. It's just an easy platform for me to shoot well.
The Kahr K9 is a fine weapon but if you are not as confident as you think you should be in your ability to shoot it fast AND accurately, then maybe it's time to move on to somthing else.

I'm the opposite... heh. I like the Kahr trigger way better than a 1911. I guess what you start with makes a big difference.

Re: Carry gun advice
I have both a Kahr PM9 and a Springfield Champion Operator. I love my 1911 but sometimes its a pain to carry which is why I bought the PM9. I prefer to carry my 1911 because having a .45 is a very comforting feeling and I know that I am a lot more accurate with it. Everyone needs at least one 1911.

Re: Carry gun advice
When I was in charge of training and armory operations for a 200 man police agency, we were issued S&W 5906 and 6906 9mm pistols, and the 3913 was an authorized backup / off duty weapon. Although most of the guns only fired around 500 rounds per year, our S&W recommended annual complete teardown and armory inspection program for these very complex guns with lots and lots of parts (around 96 if I recall correctly) always turned up very substantial numbers that required parts replacements and armorer adjustment. With this intensive armorer support they worked fine in the field, but I couldn't in good conscience suggest using them without that level of professional maintenance when one has a choice. There's a reason why you don't see them in police holsters any more.wilder wrote:For a carry gun on the cheap that works the way you're accustomed to check out the S&W 6906 or 3913. On the other hand, the new S&W M&P semiauto pistols are very finely made, rugged, easy shooting and reliable guns that I put in the same league as the Glocks and Springfield XD series. They can be found at gun shows for just a few dollars above the $400 mark, and they usually come with a coupon for either a rebate or a couple of additional magazines. They also have interchangeable backstraps in 3 sizes to fit just about any hand comfortably. Any of the guns in this series would be a fine choice for defensive use.

Re: Carry gun advice
My vote is for the Springfield. I have nver owned a Khar, but I have fired several and they just didn't grow on me. Accuracy was fine, it's just nowhere near as refined as a the Springer. IMO there is little if any difference in the concealability, especially if you decide on the EMP.

Re: Carry gun advice
Thanx for all the info. I do apologize for the length of time that has passed, but my job keeps me busy. That said, much drooling over the Springfield Loaded Champion, as well as the EMP. Though availability could present a problem on both. Have talked myself out of how expensive they both are, with leaning towards the Loaded Champion for said reason, with the added machismo of .45. Compromise being capacity and all http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 53&t=18971#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Though this leans me towards the CZ 75 Compact. Again, cocked and locked. Sorry, Mr. 72, when I was first in college, bought a Silverface Super Reverb for $425. Been looking for that sort of thing ever since. Nothing like the swampy full-on Fender reverb, with the possibility of the machine-gun stutter of the vibrato (tremelo?) of those amps. Think "How Soon Is Now" by The Smiths. Sadly, the Super Reverb goes for thrice that amount nowadays. Sorry to venture off-topic, but that is how the conversation unfolded.

I aggree. I carry a Kimber custom pro 1911 with a crossbreed holster and absolutely love the comfort. I also carry an XD9mmSC while giving the other a break. I find that anything you shoot well can carry well with adjustment. Depending on how I dress is how I carry, and even carry a Springfield 5" .45 on occasion and it always goes with me to the range.

I haven't shot a kahr, but I have heard good things about them. I own a S&W 3913 and I love it! They are great guns!
Re: Carry gun advice
I agree on the Champion. I carry either a Nickeled Champion or a Kimber Pro Carry which is the same pistol in Kimber brand. Not hard to conceal and 8+1 capacity. Very accurate at 15 yards and stays in the black for me at 30 yds.
