My son has the XD-40 Service model, my brother has the 9mm Service and I just got my .45acp a week ago. All 3 shoot great You can't beat having 14 rounds of .45acp in your hands! In fact I shot the .45 tighter than the 9 and .40. Also you get a lifetime warenty with Springfield and after having a problem with the .40 I had purchased they actually replaced it with the .45acp. Great handgun and a great company. I have a Fobus Paddle Holster for it and BTW all 3 fit the holster..... so will the Compact models.

S & W M & P or XD?

#17

Post by jbenat »

This is probably the wrong place to ask because there are so many XD fans here but I am considering buying either a S & W MP in 357 or a XD. Trying to get over the recent purchase of a Baby Desert Eagle 9mm by wife. Great gun but it's hers. I own a Sigma 9mm and like S & W products. The Sigma is very dependable but not too crazy about trigger pull.
Guy at the gun shop recommended the XD over the MP. Sounds like they are both good pistols. I've got some time to decide so I'm looking for info regarding both.

I have held the M&P in .40 and it actually fit my hand a bit better than the XD did - and the XD fit pretty well. I just don't think there will be the following for the M&P as there is for the XD. S&W has a bad reputation recently in the semi-auto area, but I hope this attempt fixes that. I do wish it didn't have all of those "lawyer" features though...

Haven't fired one to comment on that.

I don't know if it makes a difference to you, but the XD is less expensive.

The XD has been out long enough to be proven reliable. The M&P can't make the same claim just yet. I'd let someone else be the guinnea pig.

I have the 4" XD45 service model with a set of TruGlo TFO sight. I absolutely love it. It's smooth shooting and very accurate. This will be my league gun / primary carry as soon as my license gets here.

+1 for XDdan. Proven reliability is important. My son shoots one & loves it. I have shot it too & if I ever have to leave a 1911 platform it will be to an XD.

Don't own the 45acp yet, but I soon will, its on my purchasing block (damn, another gun, good thing I'm not married). I have shot one though and must say I really like it, which is why I'm going to sell my 40 service and replace it with a 45acp.

I do own an XD 9MM sub and a 40 Service and love both, no failured to date on either one (approximately 1,000 rounds through 9MM and 1,500 rounds in the 40).

Good luck with you decision, you definently can't go wrong with the XD.

I too, chose the XD9mm-SC as a Primary Carry weapon, WHEN I get my license.
It shoots really well. Can't wait as I am vacation this week, and itching to get to the range(s)!

I intend to get an XD-45 when I put together the funds. I used to have an XD-9, but my wife decided it was hers after she shot a perfect score on her CHL requal, so I have to replace it.

I bought a used XD9 last week thinking my Daughter might like to try one, she didn't care for it but I do, so far I like it much better than expected.

In my opinion

It dosen't seem to have the accuracy of my Colt's, Kimber's and Sig's but is very close, points much better than my Glock's [still not as good as the HI-Powers] and I really like the loaded chamber indicater, striker status pin and mag release, the mag's load into and release from the well better than any stock pistol I have ever owned, it's very easy to draw and get on target from a Comp-tac slide, I will have to just wait [years] and see if it will hold up as good as the Glock's.

It seems to be a very good mixture of things I like in my other guns.

Overall I am really high on this gun and have ordered extra mags and will buy another one. When I like something I want two of them.

Lets see...great ergonomics, grip safety, loaded chamber indicator, cocked firing pin indicator ... XD's are great guns. Almost as good as the Springfield 1911 Micro Compact that I got at DFW Gun Range.

When did you get it?

And FWIW, I have not had the chance to shoot the S&W M&P, but I have handled one and felt the trigger. The ergonomics are great, but the trigger is terrible. It feels like the 30 pound Sigma Trigger.

I LOVE the Springfield XD. If I did not just buy a Sig P220 I would have an XD already.

Does anyone have any experience with the XD in .357 SIG? Also, any experience/thoughts about ported vs. unported? Thanks.
