Just checked with DPS, by phone, as to status of my application (because it did not show up on website tracking link).
I was told by the lady answering that my license had been completed and was being mailed to me.
Timing: Mailed application Aug 01 and it was received by DPS (per USPS tracking) Aug 05 - exactly one month ago.
Looks like they are getting the backlog worked out!
Some Good News....

Re: Some Good News....
Congratulations! That is *fast* - maybe they are indeed getting caught up.
My good news is that the return receipt for my renewal package came this evening. I mailed it a week ago Thursday (08/28) and got the green return card today (09/05). Thought maybe the post office lost it, but DPS got it.
I hope your actual physical card comes in the mail real soon.

Re: Some Good News....
While I think that is great news (if true), I am highly skeptical. Please follow up with this post when you actually receive your license. "Fast" for DPS right now is them getting licenses out in 60-70 days. Your proposed timeline (30 days) is almost too fast to be believable. I'm hoping that your experience is indeed true, as that would indicate that DPS is finally able to catch up.

Re: Some Good News....
Don't hold your breath. Working on day 81 here. Still waiting on Harris county background check to come in. At least that is what they said....Keep the faith.
Re: Some Good News....FOLLOW UP
WELL seems if news is too good, maybe it is not "good"
A week later, still nothing in mail, and now the web site says "processing application."
Think I will call again, but suspect the "good news" was in error. I only told the lady
my name (not license # SS# etc) and as my name is almost as common as "Joe Smith" I suspect
the info I got was for another applicant.
So back to the waiting list......sigh

Re: Some Good News....Really this time!
Well, finally some real good news.
Last night I checked the DPS website for status of my application and got the "Processing Application" message.
Checked again this morning and says: "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active."
USPS site said application delivered to DPS 5 Aug
DPS site says license issued today 19 Sept
Time to complete: 45 days.
Info: I'm not sure, but the timing might have been affected (not sure whether for good or bad) by fact that I previously held
Texas CHL but failed to renew it promptly so had to go through whole "new application" process. I used the online application request
and the application came bearing the number of my old expired license. It is possible that the info they had on me in their computers may have saved some steps in the vetting process.
I will be watching for the mailman monday
