Hello from a new guy!
I was invited to add my two cents after having a howdy email from Charles and another email from longtooth.
-
I am 45 years old, married for 14 years, have a son, 11, and a daughter 9.
-
I live in Allen Texas, a growing town north of Dallas in Collin County. I've lived in the Metroplex since 1988 and am a recent resident of Allen. I am originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, which, I'm pleased to report, the family home survived Hurricane Rita with no damage to the dwelling.
-
I've worked 17 years in the insurance industry in the personal claims department but find my self unemployed after SF told me to find a new neighbor and my temp position dried up after the hurricane damage became workable by regular staff.
-
I'm currently attempting to retool without loosing my shirt and am not sure where I will land. I've applied at the Dallas Police Department but also am considering working toward a tech position, possibly in medical x-ray. I've not totally ruled out continuing in personal lines insurance claims but the big companies are not what I went to work for in 1988, but what is.
-
I enjoy handguns and am able to shoot them fairly well. I am not able to shoot a shotgun worth a flip, which, being from south Louisiana is a surprise, and yes I did my share of duck hunting. I'm better at a rifle but no longer hunt so I get no practice or incentive from rifles.
-
I do have my CCL and have carried it since the inception of the program here in Texas. I enjoy family, motorcycling when time allows, history programs and internet gun forums, reading, cooking, walking with my wife and kids.
-
I am currently introducing my son to pistols. He and I spent some time and about 200+ rounds of 22 long rifle down at the Bullet Trap in Plano. We used a Wather and thank god I had two clips because I could not load them fast enough. He had a time as did I and he really is a pretty good shot.
-
I currently own the following:
Springfield Armory XD-9 subcompact blue/black
Smith & Wesson M&P 40s&w service (commander size)
Smith & Wesson 1911PD Gunsite 45acp (commander size)
-
These guns are a pleasure to shoot and easy to carry. I find myself with the 9mm most of the time.
-
Holster selection includes:
Sparks VM-2 for the 1911
Rafters IWB for the XD-9
High Noon IWB for the XD-9
High Noon IWB for the M&P
-
My regular carry ammunition is the following:
Remington Golden Saber 230grain 45acp
Remington Golden Saber 180grain 40s&w
Remington Golden Saber 147grain 9mm
As you can tell, I lean toward the larger, meatier loads, not spending a lot of time on ballistics and/or statistics.
I've also appreciated Federal EFMJ reduced recoil in each of these calibers.
-
I've enjoyed introducing myself to the forum. I look forward to getting to know the group and sharing interests.

Welcome jclif, my, when you post an intro you sure do a good job. Feel like we've known you all your life now. Great to see those kids on the range. That is a good age to start them. I have a Granddaughter 13 & Grandson 10. They both shoot when here. Another GD 8 that is doing great w/ her BB gun. The 6 yr old GS has not yet wanted to make any noise. Good carry rig for each of your setups. My son has the XD 40 & really loves it. I have shot it & think it is a good choice too. Hate the job situation but glad we know. Several of us on the forum really do pray over need such as that & will make your family a part of that time here. Time to get out this morning. Sunrise service this morning. Have a great Easter. See you in print.

Re: Hello from a new guy!
Chris you have my attention. I know a fella that is a Peace Officer that also worked claims with me cleaning up after Hurricane Rita. He is still active as a reserve and loves it.Chris wrote:
another resource to tap into.after working in law enforcement full-time for 10 years, i left to work for an insurance company. the difference is night and day. i love the company and people i work for (something that can't be said for police work). i've only been out of full-time law enforcement about 8 months now, but i'm still a deputy sheriff (i couldn't give it up entirely, i love the work), and teach at the academy. i took the adjuster job for the SIU position that's coming open soon.

You are a large company but a small office eh? I've sent you a personal message. Please give me a call. I am not snubbing any opportunity that I find or that find's me.
and thank you for caring and posting.

answered prayer
I would like to inform and thank the forum for prayers and support regarding my employment situation. i received a call yesterday from a temp placement agency and i reported for work and training today. this is considered a temporary position but it could work into a full time employee of the company position. considering the company, i would not mind that at all.
thanks again gang.
thanks again gang.

Yes prayer works. It works a lot better when God has someone w/ a strong work ethic & some get up & go to look for work. Welcome to the forum & back to the employed.
