Suspect in shooting of federal agent has CWP

#1

Post by Revet »

Primary suspect in the parking lot shooting of federal customs agent has a concealed weapons permit according to his wife. The motive is unknown at present, but an argument of some sort apparently occurred in the post office parking lot prior to the shooting.

UPDATE: The press reports that this may have been a road rage incident and that both the agent and the citizen were armed. The shooting occurred in front of the agent's young daughter who was able to identify the suspect. Unfortunately, and as usual, instead of expressions of sympathy and prayers, the usual culprits are exploiting the developing story before the details are made public. Within two hours of the national report, the Brady website had posted the story making the fact that the shooter had a carry permit very prominent.

The news says that some altercation took place somewhere and then ended in the post office parking lot, as I understand it at the moment.

inside, outside, parking lot... it's all the same premises to them thar feds. afaik, a gun in the parking lot is the same as a gun in line, waiting to mail a package.

I'm certain that a road rage confrontation and shooting will not meet the "lawful purpose" definition.

I couldn't resist.

And I am sure your definition of lawful purpose as it applies to carrying in a post office is completely wrong.

I couldn't resist.

Maybe it was self defense. The shooter was a 65 year old guy on dialysis (disparity of force?) who had a CWP (clean record?) and everyone says he didn't have a temper and didn't get into fights.

From the Sun-Sentinel story:
The report said Wonder, 65, pulled into the Pembroke Pines post office first from Dykes Road. It said Pettit then pulled into the post office parking lot from Pines Boulevard.

There, they argued some more, Wonder pulled a gun from his waistband, removed the safety and shot Pettit in the head, the report said.
"Ees gun! Ees not safe!"

You would undoubtedly think my definition of quite a few things is wrong.

Fed agent that got killed made bunch if stupid decisions:
1) Getting into one finger salute fight with other guy
2) Following the other guy into the post office to confront him
3) Doing all of this with his young daughter in the car, now her dad is dead

Doesnt look like self defense for the other guy, just a really huge mess. Fed agent couldve avoided it too, both are guilty of making really bad decisions

Exactly...why did a trained LEO put flames on the fire by following him into the parking lot? Bad decision. My prayers go out to all involved.
