Who was at NRA 2005? What was your favorite part?
It was a fantastic event. I had a ball! Met R.Lee Ermy, Ted Nugent, Rob Leatham, Dave Sevigny (Glock), and Tom Knapp.
We didn't make it up stairs. We spent the whole time on the show floor.
I have found my next gun. The little STI 9mm. That thing just felt so good the hand and had a MSRP of about $800. I want, I want, I want!
I was disappointed by the lack of Eddie the Eagle presence. Kind of expected someone in costume at the least. One small table kind of hidden away. They did give me the video and My son loves it! I am going to get sick of that song, but if it helps then it is worth every time he sings it.
If you haven't gone yet, there is still one more day. It is worth going.
I had to make 2 trips to the car to unload all the free stuff. :D

Eddie was there! MY grand-daughter had her picture made with him. He was located upstairs... :-) MY other grand-daughter had her pic made with Ted Nugent. She is STILL on "cloud nine"... :)dws1117 wrote:I was disappointed by the lack of Eddie the Eagle presence. Kind of expected someone in costume at the least. One small table kind of hidden away. Now my day there... :)
Just got back from a day at the convention. Man, was it a BLAST!!
Met Dennis Reese & Rob Leatham at the SA booth. Rob is one HELL of a nice guy. Stood there and shot the breeze with me for a bit.
Got to handle the new .45GAP Defender and all I can say is SWEET!!
Also won a t-shirt and XD-Gear holster from SA.
Also stopped by the Para booth and met Todd Jarrett. He is very quite but willing to give you a few pointers as well.
All within a couple of hours I met arguably the two best shooters in the country.
All in all, we had a HELL of a time!!!

Was there all friday afternoon. I must have missed Leatham, but all and all, it was amazing!
Got to handle a G36K and a UMP for the first time. Amazing! Can't believe how light weight they are! Very space age.
I was just about drooling walking in and seeing DSA with their huge collection of FALs!
Got to handle just about every handgun I was ever interested in. Kimber, Springfield, H&K, SIG, S&W...
Picked up a huge stack full of brochures. Haven't even made it thru the stack yet.
Got to go shooting Friday night too! With out of town visters bringing some of their collection, it was really special. Doing a Beta dump with an M16 was just as fun as I remembered!
Can't believe that so many people I know in town missed it. I took off work to go and never regretted a second!

I got the flyer and leaflet blues too...
At least I got "Wife-Unit" to lug them around for me whilst I partook of the finer things at the convention...hehehe
I know I am going to get some flak for that one...hehehe
Its all in fun...Of course I lugged around my own "stuff"!!!
I saw Zell Miller signing his books...
Ran into Ermy...Told him I'd go to war with him anyday...
And of course I renewed my memberships to the NRA, TSRA...
Shhhhh, just don't tell my wife...

Article (largely about hunting gear):
"NRA convention featured quality and quantity firearms
It could be years before such a hunting exhibition returns to area"

It was really fun (and convenient) to be able to handle such a great variety of handguns without sales pressure, and consider what the next purchase will be. It was helpful to talk with some of the factory reps and pick up a huge amount of literature. Everyone there was friendly. Had an interesting chat with some of the TSRA folks, who talked me into joining. I also bought a convention T-shirt, the one with the longhorn motif. (Unfortunately, the "Don't mess with the NRA" ones were all sold out.) Also picked up some Eddie Eagle paraphenalia to pass on to my Mom (a schoolteacher).
When I am summoned away from my semi-permanent exile/assignment in Texas to return to my employer in upstate NY, I am tempted to wear the T-shirt on my first day back, for the shock-value, the Texas longhorn motif, etc. However, I suspect it would be smarter to choose discretion over daring, and only wear that T-shirt at the gun club I belong to up there.

Did you do something wrong in a past life? :?
Yes, it is a cruel tease to be living it up in this great state for over half a year, and then have to go back to NY (upstate, not the city) and put up with all of its horsepuckey. But thankfully, I will return to Texas by late summer and FINALLY get my Texas residency, get started on my Texas CHL, etc. I'm not a legal resident of Texas right now because my employer is paying for my housing, and I need proof of residency, among other things, to get a TX DL/CHL, & get the NYS tax department's sticky fingers out of my paycheck.
I was drooling at the DSA booth as well, but I didn't know they had rifles there!
I thought the whole thing was great. I am sitting here at an extra job about to send off a bunch of letters for T&E rifles and optics. I was blown away how easy it was to get rifles to test.
My dad and I stopped by the Shiloh Sharps booth, and now the two of us are flying to MT to order my dad's rifle.
I'm flying to the next one as long as it's semi-close.
