Cincinatti, July 24: A robber tried to hold up the owner and 11 employees of a moving company. He had a .380 pistol, which typically has a 6-round magazine. The business owner grabbed the pistol. In the ensuing scuffle, the robber shot himself twice. No one else was injured.
"This ought to be on 'Dumbest Criminals,' Palma said. "To come into a moving company with men who lift and haul things for a living - 12 guys, five or six bullets. You do the math."
The owner who struggled with the bandit has now decided to install security cameras. I hope someone tells him that the most likely result is next time he'll have souvenir movies of the encounter.

That just goes to show you the way some people think....what good would a security camera do, duh? How would that have helped with what just happened... a good 1911 gets my vote!

Texas City, Wednesday (yesterday) -- Two women, a man, and his infant son drove to the Dollar General store in the 4500 block of Highway 146. The driver and front-seat passenger went into the store, leaving the engine running. The man and baby were in the back.
One Stephen Rappa, 50, reportedly jumped into the vehicle and started to drive away. The man in the back seat opened a can of butt-whip on him, subdued him, and held him until police arrived.
While this story has a happy ending, please please, don't leave your keys in the ignition when you get out of the vehicle. I have seen way too many bad outcomes of this practice, including vehicles being stolen with children in them, and children putting vehicles in gear.

Actually, you're supposed to couple the 1911 with the security camera. Then you will have souvenir videos that back up your account of the incident.

Looking back, Patrick Rosario realizes it probably wasn't the wisest thing to do.
Still, as it turned out, the burglars who tried to loot his Bellevue home got a surprise of their own as they began their escape: Rosario had made off with their getaway car.
Waukegan, Illinois (Chicago Suburb) -- On March 4, an unarmed man tried to hold up a gun store, Mike Schrank's Smoke 'N Gun. When he assaulted the clerk, the clerk shot him. The clerk somehow managed to shoot himself in the hand.

This case illustrates how important it is to keep even an unarmed assailant from closing with you.

They're in Chicago. Illinois is one of the most gun-unfriendly states in the country, right behind New York and California. I'm surprised the clerk didn't get indicted.

Shooting yourself in the hand is really easy to do when struggling with someone with one hand and firing a handgun to try to get the assailant off you with the other, particularly when this is done in close quarters like behind a store counter. It takes training, technique and conscious effort to keep this from happening. The better defensive pistol courses usually include info and exercises on this topic.
