Introduction

Hi everyone!
I've been lurking for awhile.
I have a Glock 27, my very first gun(although I've fired my dad's guns before), and I've taken it to the range once. I had several misfires, but the instruction manual says that you have to put 300-400 rounds through it before everything starts working properly. Has anyone else had this experience?
I'm still trying to justify the cost of the CHL to Mr. Madonna, but hope to take the class soon (he's not a 'gun person').
I'm looking forward to making a lot of inane and misinformed posts here.

What were the failures? Did the cartridge fail to fire, fail to eject, or fail to feed? Which ammunition were you using?

I believe the cartridge failed to fire. Each time after hearing a click but no bang, I ejected it and found a dent where the firing pin hit. Sometimes it was a little off center. The bullet box says Monarch .40 S&W 180 GR TOTAL METAL JACKET.
There is a faint green ring around the strike plate on some rounds but not others. I assumed it was paint(the box is green), but maybe it's corrosion? Do bullets age? Thanks for the help.

I've made the case to my husband several times, but he thinks of shooting as more of a wierd hobby than a necessity. I think I'll wear him down eventually, but he laid out quite a bit for the gun (buying it was a big step for him!) and doesn't see the need to spend more just yet.

If the primer is dented, but did not fire, I would think it is just a bad batch of ammo. I'd try a different brand. The Winchester White Box bulk (WWB) is a good, reliable brand that is pretty cheap (~$26/100 rounds) at Walmart. I've put over 1500 rounds of it through my 27 with 0 problems. If the problems persist, then I'd call Glock. Break in times are more for the 1911 crowds.

*EDIT* I also ate hamburger helper for 2 months in order to scrape together the money for the CHL class and permit fee for my new wife. Her safety was paramount. Just my $0.02.

Seriously, I think the OP gor a defective batch of ammo. The green you describe might well be corrosion. That Monarch stuff is not the best and Russian industry has notoriously poor quality control.

Well rich people might actually use hamburger in it. I find that the box does well on its own. (I know someone will get the reference).

I have little to add, except that I have fired thousands of rounds of CCI Blazer aluminum and never had a failure.

Looks like the first liar doesn't stand a chance in this thread.

I never had too much of an issue buying my guns other than convincing the family CFO (aka, the Mrs.) that I needed to spend the money.

Lady Madonna, welcome to the forum. My advice is to keep working on him subtly. He will probably come around; it will just take time to adjust. He may never get into your love of firearms, but will more than likely learn it is part of you and your marriage and accept it. Hopefully he will get interested and it will give you one more thing to share!

Luxury! We used to have to get out of the lake at three o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, work twenty hours a day at the mill for twopence a month, come home and stay up all night guarding the lake against packs of wild carnivorous animals.
