Faster to hand-deliver or mail it in?

I am taking my CHL class Saturday. I registered for my CHL online and received the paperwork earlier this week, so I will take this paperwork to the class and have it completed by Saturday.

So given the fact that I am in Austin, I could hand-deliver the application to DPS office, or just mail it in. Will hand-delivering it really have any effect on the time it will take to get the CHL? It'd consume my lunch break on Monday to take it in. If I just put it in the mail, then it should get there by Tuesday.

Or you can take it to the post office at 900 Blackson. The DPS has a box they pick up from there everyday according to the postal worker I spoke to. Worked for me anyway. Bought my money order there and the lady walked over to their box and dropped it in for me. Took all of 20 steps or so and cost me $1.38....

I hand-delivered mine. They did look it over and stamp it as received. So it may be a little faster.

I hand delivered it - everything perfect the first time - and it took about 120 days to get the plastic in hand. I don't think it was faster.

I think at 90-120 days to complete, does one day matter? I mailed my from San Antonio, delivery receipt requested, and it only took a day to get there. It may not have been picked up that exact day but at most the next.

Who am I kidding? If I could shave an hour off......

I hand delivered my package as well but it didn't seem to matter.... Still waiting!

If you mail it registered, at least you DO have a written record that someone signed for it...instead of your word against theirs (and who wins that one??)

But that said if I was in Austin, and close, I'd probably feel better about hand delivering it. Go for it!

With the way DPS is moving it wont make any difference in the processing time, you may as well send it via the Pony Express - Im willing to bet its gonna be at least 60 days before you see your CHL. Just mail it and forget it, that way you dont go insane checking the status daily wondering why it still says "processing application" well after 2 months.

Good point.... When you hand deliver your package you can have them date stamp the front page and make a copy for your records. This can be used instead of a "war of words." You'll have to ask for it since it is not "automatic."

Do not send your application to the DPS using any service in which they have to sign for it. When you send it registered or certified mail your application will sit in a box at the post office to wait for a worker at DPS to come in and sign for it. They may do it every day or they may take a week.

Sending it certified is playing with fate. If a DPS employee gets lazy or forgets to go to the post office to go and sign for the certified mail then your application will just sit there. You got lucky that it arrived 2 days later. Sending it with "Delivery confirmation" is sufficient in tracking the mailman.
