Would my 2 spare mags for my 1911 that I carry be considered unreasonable? :???:
I saw on the news just a few minutes ago from the Police spokesman - "that he had a 9mm, a round in the chamber, a full 'clip' and 60 rounds of ammunition."

Wow....even the Police call it "clips'.....

If the 60 rounds were not in mags (and the cops would have said so since they noted the one full mag that they did find), it calls the guy's mental state more into question than ever. Let's say he did attempt a mass shooting. After he shoots his gun dry, he now has to reload the mag one round at a time from his stash of 60 loose rounds. I would call that an attempt at suicide by cop or even suicide by any CHL that may have been present.

I'm just glad that people noticed what was going on, connected the dots, and resolved the whole thing with no one getting hurt.

I would say congrats to everyone involved (except the whack job himself of course).

:headscratch 17rnd mag in the gun, 1 in the pipe, and 2 mags on a mag pouch at 17 each is 52 rounds of ammo... 2 more than a full box... just doing math as to what I carry around the house... we dont know what he had on him... it could have been 6 rounds in a speed strip..

I guess perhaps I am carrying around an "unreasonable" ammount of ammo... wait.. .what am i saying!! there is no such thing! :fire :fire :fire :fire

Maybe the reporter should have asked the chief him many rounds his street cops carry. I know I would have.

If I have to go to a shop and rob after dark, I carry a Glock 27 in an Akers IWB with a t shirt over it. Or I carry the safepacker in my hand. Or I have the safepacker in the passenger seat looped thru the seatbelt so it won't slide away in a panic stop. http://store.thewilderness.com/index.ph ... 90340063ca

If I need to just walk in somewhere, I have a KelTec 380 with one of these; http://packwellsupply.com/Walletholster.htm

Yah, it's "just" a 380, but I can put 4 rounds touching at 7 yards with it. In the holster.

Have you seen any documentation from the BATFE that this holster is legal?

Wallet holsters were eliminated several years ago by an ATF ruling that they constituted an AOW (Any Other Weapon).

I would have to recheck the criteria.

Your vendor claims that it is legal because it still looks like a handgun.

I thought I remembered the ruling as outlawing anything where the pistol could be fired while inside the holster.

I would have to have a copy of any letter of acceptance by the BATFE and carry it with me whenever carrying your wallet holster. Maybe someone can enlighten me if this ruling has changed since.

This is copied from the FFL Newsletter, August 1997, Vol 1, pages 5-6
WALLET GUNS

ATF has received numerous inquiries regarding wallet guns and wallet holsters.
As defined in section 5845(e) of the National Firearms Act (NFA), the term “any other weapon
includes certain concealable weapons. Various types of disguised weapons such as cane guns, belt
buckle guns, and briefcase guns (with remote control firing mechanisms) fall within the “any
other weapon category. It is unlawfil to make, possess, or transfer such firearms without
complying with the provisions of the NFA. During the 1970’s, ATF determined that various
small handguns combined with certain “wallet holsters fall into the “any other weapon category
and are subject to the provisions of the NFA. These wallet holsters are generally rectangular in
shape, are designed to disguise the appearance of the handgun, and are designed to allow the weapon
to be fired while it is contained within the wallet. The handgun combined with the wallet holster
constitutes an NFA firearm.

A conventional pistol or revolver which is possessed without the wallet holster would not be
an NFA firearm. A wallet holster alone is not subject to NFA controls and cannot be registered
or transferred a- a firearm. Firearms contained in conventional holsters, trouser pockets, purses,
gun cases, or various other forms of carrying cases have not been determined to fall within the
definition of an “any other weapon, even though it maybe possible to discharge a firearm while it
is carried in such a manner. In order for an individual to lawfully “make a
wallet gun, that is to say, acquire both the handgun and the wallet holster, the person must
first submit an Application to Make and Register a Firearm (ATF Form 1), pay a $200.00 making
tmq and receive approval of the application. The serial number appearing on the handgun should
be used to register the firearm.
Transfer of a wallet gun requires an approved transfer
application and payment of a $5 transfer tax. A transfer will not be approved unless the wallet
gun has been registered to the transferor. Mere sale or possession of the wallet holster
without the handgun is not a violation of the NFA. However, 18 U.S.C. section 2 provides that
a person who aids or abets another person in the commission of an offense is also responsible for
the offense. Therefore, sale or distribution of a wallet holster with knowledge that it will be used
to make an unregistered NFA firearm may also place the seller or distributor of the holster in
violation of the NFA.

pt145ss,

My favorite carry method for my Kimber .45 is from www.handgunholsters.net. It's designed to fit inside the pocket of cargo shorts/pants and it works great. I use this holster with cargo shorts and I've been real pleased with it. You can't beat it for warm/hot weather carry here in Texas. I've have a Kimber Pro Carry with a 4" barrell and it's completely concealed.

I have a leather IWB holster for the 45 and works great with just about anything I wear...accept a tucked in shirt. Going to and from work, I tend to leave the 45 at home as I am dressed business casual. I can not carry at work so I must be able to arm and disarm easily. I do not think I would want to continuously tuck and un-tuck my shirt when going in and out of the office. I would like to find a carry solution, so I can put the 45 on without having to un-tuck and re-tuck my shirt. I hate the darn things…but the only thing that I can think of is a belly bag. Ideas along those lines would be great…anyone use a belly bag/fanny pack?
