Let me add a little more to this subject. When I was talking to Edd he did say that they did not allow CHL carry in his establishment and that I, or anyone else could disarm, leave their weapons in their car and rearm upon exiting the restaurant. I was not fast enough on my feet to remind him that he has spoken numerous times about auto break ins in his parking lot. I also remember him stating that he had taken steps to add security and video monitoring. That said, I have entertained numerous clients at this restaurant. The average check total of four adults can easily top $200.00.
As stated on air, If the location is truly posted in the correct format, I will take my business elsewhere. This is too sad as I really enjoy the food and atmosphere.

I listen to Edd just about every morning, what a disappointment.

Re: Taste of Texas Posted
This sounds like my 1994 decision never to buy a Ruger. Ruger was discriminating against employees who rode motorcycles, saying employees had to wear helmets or would get no insurance benefits in spite of state laws that did not require helmets. Quite positively, employees along with the American Motorcycle Association convinced Ruger to drop the policy and in 1998 Ruger finally did. Four years of waiting is a long time but it shows the voices of reason can be heard. Let's hope Taste of Texas hears our voices and welcomes CHLs. I'll be interested in further comment from the owner.

Re: Taste of Texas Posted
I have actually been there twice in the past three months (before I heard this on the radio) and specifically looked for a sign and did not see one.
As you enter the restaurant, there are two sets of double doors with about 10-12 feet between them. In that area that are numerous plaques, articles and awards. It may be in there and I've just missed it.
I enjoy entertaining folks there as well. Next time I go, I'll look to see if it's properly posted.
That was a nice call sbb.

It is entirely possible the owner either misunderstood or misinterpreted the caller's question.
We don't need to burn our own at the stake until we know for sure.
Be nice if someone could visit there with the purpose of determining whether it is posted.

Without hearing the call, this would be my position as well. However it was very clearly asked if he posted at his business and he said yes. Then as sbb indicated in his post, Mr. Hendee went on to explain that you could take off your firearm and leave it in the car and put it back on once you left the restaurant.Mike1951 wrote:It is entirely possible the owner either misunderstood or misinterpreted the caller's question.

I can assure you that Edd knew the exact meaning of the question. In fact he became rather combative in stating that as the owner it was entirely his choice to ban firearms. Later in the show Edd was very apologetic for his tone and abrupt manner.
I will continue to listen to the broadcast because of Edd and Pat's coverage of local issues in DFW and Houston. I hold no grudge or any type of anger toward Edd. As he chooses to ban firearms, I will choose to take my entertainment dollars elsewhere.

Did anyone confirm it? I grew up next door in Fonn Villas and have eaten there often. I've never seen a sign. He has hosted the prez of Taiwan, Limbaugh, and nearly every high profile republican, so I assume that is what he is referring to.

Just as long as they could resist the urge to "educate" the staff if they find that it is improperly posted.Mike1951 wrote:It is entirely possible the owner either misunderstood or misinterpreted the caller's question.

I'll be in Houston next month and I will make it a point to go there and enjoy their prime rib. I will also check out any signs that may or may not be present and let the board know.

Re: Taste of Texas Posted
Here is the email that I sent this morning.
Edd,
I was listening to your show this past Friday (4/11) when you stated that your business is posted. The caller indicated 30.06 and you didn't refute this, so I will have to assume that it is a 30.06 posting. I was floored by this statement. You have talked many times about personal defense and having your CHL. I'm surprised that you would make the choice to post at your business.
This just advertises to criminals that there will be no legal CHL holders carrying in the restaurant. The posting does nothing to stop a criminal from bringing a firearm onto the premises.
You indicated that this decision was due to your restaurant being prominent and having high profile guests. This seems counterintuitive to me. Wouldn't this possibly lead to an increased risk of a shooting incident? Especially if the patron is considered controversial by some?
You stated that I, as a CHL holder, could just remove my firearm, leave it in the car and then put it back on when I left the restaurant. I do not view this as a valid way to protect myself or my family if I'm eating and someone comes in and starts shooting. You have also indicated on your show that there have been several vehicle break-ins in the parking lot. This prevents me from feeling comfortable about leaving a firearm in my vehicle.
You said on the air today that you have re-joined the NRA. I would also suggest that you join the TSRA if you haven't already done so. They are just as important at the local level as the NRA is on the national level.
My wife and I have enjoyed coming to your restaurant and I have entertained clients, employees and prospective employees at your restaurant. I will no longer do this.
I hope that you will reconsider your choice to post at your business.
Tony

Frankie_the_Yankeee, in the south, we don't give anti-gun people our money, so why would you go there and give anti-CHL Edd Hendee your money? There are plenty of good steakhouses in Houston, so why not go to one of them that doesn't post anti-CHL signs?frankie_the_yankee wrote:Just as long as they could resist the urge to "educate" the staff if they find that it is improperly posted.Mike1951 wrote:It is entirely possible the owner either misunderstood or misinterpreted the caller's question.

I sent a email to Ed and said if it was true about the no guns that I would not be coming back to his
place of business.
I also said that TEXAS ROAD HOUSE had great PRIME RIB too.

As of now, I do not know if the business is properly posted or not. I'v e read a lot of conflicting stuff on this thread, and as far as I can tell, no one seems to know for sure.tx_bob wrote: Frankie_the_Yankeee, in the south, we don't give anti-gun people our money, so why would you go there and give anti-CHL Edd Hendee your money? This does not seem to be stopping some people from doing their best to make sure it is properly posted if it is not already with what I consider to be ill-advised phone calls and letters.
If we knew for sure it was 30.06 posted that would be one thing. But I think it is bad tactics on our part to try to "educate" people who, for whatever reason, do not have proper 30.06 signs posted. All too often, we "succeed" and end up with another place that is off limits when they "correct" their signs.
I really don't care what the owner's philosophy is, even if it crosses the line into hypocrasy. If all he has is a couple of ghostbuster signs posted and a big mouth on the radio, I'll still enjoy the food if I choose to and I'll carry while I am doing it.
Maybe he is really 100% pro gun and pro CHL, and is simply assuming a posture on the radio for what he perceives to be good tactical reasons. Until I see the signs, if any, I will not know.
So I would advise everyone to take a nice big chill pill on this one until we have accurate information.

One of the two, cannot recall, Brennans or Brenners is over there at 10 and wilcrest. Very nice.ducks4brkfast wrote:I've never noticed a sign and since we live in the area, eat there frequently for varying reasons, including my entertaning clients.
I will now stop going there for both personal and business purposes.
That's a shame as I have a lot of energy industry clients in West Houston, and the area lacks of nicer places to go.
I'll spread the word.
