This can not be real. They want your CHL and DL numbers?

Charles Cotton asked for the same information on this forum:

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
This looks like the information Charles was requesting in http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 91&start=0
Sounds like the TSRA is trying to get all of their members (not just those on this forum) to provide their time lines so they can compile a list and get the DPS to meet the letter of the law on issuance times.
I haven't received anything. It is probably legitimate, however I am not sure who is on the legislative committee as I can't find it on their website. I would hold off until I can verify that Ms. Tripp is actually asking for these and the email address is valid.
EDIT: Jim beat me to it. I was a little more long winded!

Haven't received the email but if I do, I will not be providing the requested information.
I simply don't see the need for such detail and the AOL address bothers me. Must be a better way!

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
I posted the link to this thread to the aol person.
I understand their concern but it seems a little fishy.
Maybe they should have an approval committe review emails before sending them out.
Just like the one I got from them a few months ago about how it was illegal to have a firearms at the State Fair.
Sorry but last year I brought mine and showed my CHL ID card and the security guy waved me by with a smile and actually thanked me. Thought that was totally cool.
Maybe they should have a couple of you guys/gals helping them out. Board members here always seem to be very knowledgeable and professional with everything about CHL.
I am not attacking TSRA in anyway and I support TSRA every year, just more of a concern about personnel information.
Oh well, hope everybody has a great day !!!

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
I know the email address to be a valid address for Alice Tripp, as we have emailed back and forth before. I sent her an email this morning with the concerns, and here is her reply:
Dear Linda.
TSRA has always had server problems, not the case with AOL. I've opened and saved about 30 answers so far. Thanks for your concern. I'm getting the response I need.

Alice,
I am a little concerned that you have asked for personal info, driver's license, CHL number, full name, and request this be sent to an AOL email address. I doubt you will get many responses, as spamming for personal info is so prevalent now.
Do you not have an email address at TSRA?

If they tend to have server problems, you might suggest that they invest in a better host for their web presence/services.llwatson wrote:I know the email address to be a valid address for Alice Tripp, as we have emailed back and forth before. I also got the email and I don't question its authenticy.
But Ms. Tripps' response to llwatson does concern me. She ignores the expressed concerns and seems to say 'there are enough fools replying to give us the data.'
She is totally ignoring that the request showed no concern for the privacy of anyone who responded.

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
The email request is legitimate and Alice explained that the TSRA server is giving a problem. That problem is being dealt with, but a host change, if that is coming, will not be complete before the meeting next week.
Alice isn't ignoring anyone's concerns. If you don't want to give your information, then don't. I only received three responses to my request and I don't think anyone was worried about the authenticity of my request. We're trying to do something about the delays and that takes evidence.

I don't think I'll be sending in my personal info. Sounds like a mailing list update to me.
I don't doubt they may be trying to help...but they can help EVERYONE in the queue, not just the one providing info. I know I know, specific cases and all, but the DPS knows how long it's been taking.
Good Luck,
Rob

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
I think your completely wrong here. The TSRA doesn't need to update a mailing list. Their mailing consists of members and folks who have requested their email notices.rob02262008 wrote:I don't think I'll be sending in my personal info. Sounds like a mailing list update to me.
They are completely, 100% above board.
I just think that they didn't consider that people sending sentitive information across the internet with no security measures isn't a good idea.

I agree, sometimes I send stuff over the Internet and think, geez was that safe.
Honest mistake and not her fault at all.
She is probably a very nice and trusting person, sometimes we all foget their are bad guys out there waiting to steal any kind of information and sell it.
Now if they had a web site up to up information that would be a great idea, but no matter what, I am keeping my numbers to myself.
Everybody have a great weekend.

I'm so used to using Alice's AOL email address, I never gave it a thought that it might look strange to people who were not used to seeing it. I think I'll offer her an email address at TexasShooting.com or TexasCHLforum.com. Af for the TSRA server, we all hope that's taken care of soon.

Re: Delays in Receiving a TX CHL - anybody get this email
By all means, don't send anything if you are uncomfortable. However, I'm personally involved in this effort and it has nothing to do with updating an email list. There is a very important meeting with DPS about delays and it's necessary to be able to point to specific applications that are late. Merely saying there is a problem without any proof just doesn't work. The information provided will not be used to help only those people; it's proof that the problem actually exists.rob02262008 wrote:I don't think I'll be sending in my personal info.
