love handles and concealed carry
I just spent about 6 hours in the car today and realized that my Commander in the High Noon IWB would be a little more comfortable if I lost a little weight.
Never noticed it while standing most of the day.
Hmmm. A little less 'taters an' gravy for me.

Re: love handles and concealed carry
Carrying OWB is much easier when you have love handles. Instead of the love handles pushing the grip out, the top of the rig tilts more inward with an OWB hohlster. This may sound like it defies logic, but if you're using a cover garment, a good OWB rig actually prints LESS than an IWB rig for many people.

This fatboy carries OWB 99% of the time. More comfortable and easier to conceal.

Actually this has been a lot on my mind and waist, lately. I'm still weigh above what I want to weigh and it's mostly fat.
I have the space to get my Com-Tac MTAC into my pants with me but would prefer to have more. Much more.

Re: love handles and concealed carry
Not with my body. Although more comfortable, I can conceal much better with an IWB rig than an OWB. And trust me, I have LOVE handles. I have several OWB holsters but none conceal as well as my Concealco does. The wife can always tell if I have an OWB on, but she doesn't know if I am carrying with the IWB. With the OWB she says that my body has a funny shape.NcongruNt wrote:Carrying OWB is much easier when you have love handles. Re: love handles and concealed carry
Sometimes I carry the G26 inside pocket but strongly prefer the OWB or paddle type holster.
The paddle type for my XD40 does seem to rest as 'NcongruNt ' says in his post for some reason.
I always wear an un-tucked shirt or outerwear of some type and find that either carry piece fits more comfortable on a paddle or OWB type holster.

Re: love handles and concealed carry
I guess I'm pear shaped. Anyway, my broadest point is below my belt. So when I wear an IWB holster, even with a full size 1911, the belt pulls everything in close as I'm narrower where the gun is riding. IWB works well for me.

I am a big guy, 350+, and I find that IWB works best for me, even thought it does hurt at times. I just can not find shirts long enough to cover an OWB, at least with the OWB holsters that I have. My problem is not while walking, it while sitting down, my shirt rides up on the sides. Maybe I just dont have the right OWB holster, I might try some others. What holsters are you other big guys using, to give me an idea of where to look for another holster?

Re: love handles and concealed carry
I'm in the process of losing a lot of weight. I've lost about 40 lbs and then Christmas and the Vegas trip came and I gained about 10 back. I mostly eat a very regimented diet, drink lots of water, dont' drink sodas (even diet), and I walk about 2 miles a day. Once I lose some more weight I'm going to start jogging some of those two miles, right now it would reak havoc on my knees.
My reasons for doing so are this:
- I'm single but don't enjoy the benefits of being a bachelor because I lack the confidence in my physical appearance to "make contact".
- I look at pictures of myself and say "Man do I really look that fat?!"
- I find it easier to conceal carry when I'm not so wide in the middle.
- I just like the way I look better when I'm thinner, and I haven't been like that since I was in the Army.

Re: love handles and concealed carry
Good for you. Similar situation in that I put on a lot of weight after I graduated college, by still drinking but stopping the exercising. Water is totally underrated as a source of losing weight. Cutting out everything but water and skim milk will do wonders on its own. Cut out juices too, as they are generally loaded with sugar. And yea I tend to think (with no scientific foundation whatsoever) that the body is too smart to be fooled by artificial sweeteners in diet sodas and somehow converts those pseudo-sugars into calories. This, coupled with more exercise, and I've lost the weight and am back to college days. Also, don't underestimate the power of eating a high fiber cereal for breakfast. It curbs your hunger and causes you to eat much less at lunch and dinner. Simple but effective steps.gregthehand wrote:I'm in the process of losing a lot of weight. Giving up beer also really really helps, but hey let's not go crazy here folks

I eat Weight control oatmeal in the morning. Usually some fish, chicken, or lean turkey for lunch grilled with vegies, and then a MetRX meal supplement mixed with milk for dinner. For snacks I stick with some kind of fruit. Works well!

I'm a certified fat guy, it helped me a little to move from 3 to 4 o'clock. Dropping a ton or two would do me some good.

That's what I need to do. I don't consider myself "fat" but I'm definitely overweight. For me at least, OWB does not conceal well and I like the idea of losing weight because I know I need to. I need to drop about twenty to get to my "pre-fatherhood" weight of 200. I was a sympathy gainer along with my wife with our first child. She lost hers and I kept mine.
