Why I carry so much

I have my gun with me virtually every time I leave my apartment. The reason is surprising though. I don't realistically expect I will need it most places that I go (but I do have it just in case).

For me...what keeps me on my toes and keeps me not lazy regarding carrying is the thought that I would be leaving cocked and locked .45 in my desk drawer or on my desk if I didn't carry it.

Anyone else relate to that?

PS - I'm not saying that I am ignorant of why we should carry. What I am saying is that sometimes, when usually I would be lazy and say "ah...its just to here...I'll just leave it" I don't - I suck it up, put a holster on and change shirts/jackets if I have to because I don't want some kid or a roommate to play with my kimber and do something stupid.

I understand how you feel.....I am obsessive about locking my guns in the safe or putting this in my waist band before leaving the house. I understand that our living situations are a bit different, there is only my wife who is completely used to guns being around the house and she has been to more gun shows than most men....so the curious factor is pretty much gone.
Another way of looking at it....if you knew when you would need your handgun, you would most likely just stay away from there.
I will admit that becoming active in this forum has raised my awareness and I now carry about 90% of the time I am not working.

I went for 2 days without carying this week and boy did it feel odd. My guns were locked in a safe so I had no concerns about anyone else getting them and doing something stupid (kids included). Not to mention I am living in a house with my wife and kids - the boy (3) would LOVE to play with them, but knows better and I don't give him the combo.

Now - the reason I didn't carry: Ever try running a marathon while packing? Me either... and I was honestly too sore the next day to do much of anything. Tuesday I strapped it back on though.

I don't really think about going with or without. It's 100% WITH. I live in a really quiet little neighborhood, off the beaten path and nothing ever happens but there's always a first time. If I happen to be around when the first time occurs, I will be prepared. I don't even walk to the mailbox unarmed.

With the dangerous dog that was constantly running loose in my area for about a year... I know I'm right to do it too.

My CHL instructor was right when he said just because you carry a gun does not mean you should go into areas or put yourself into a situation that you would not go to before you were carrying.

He did not go into a the Stop and Rob at 2 AM before he carried a gun and he still doesn't even though he carries daily.

To me itâ€™s like the American Express Cardâ€¦"I donâ€™t leave home without it." The world is changing and itâ€™s not going to get better anytime soon. Being prepared should be a common practice in todayâ€™s society.

+1 for the mail box. Since the home carry topic I have it on when my pants are on. It is yalls fault.

+1. The same hold true for me as well. When I first got my CHL I started becoming lazy. The more I read the insight and experiences of our forum members the more I find myself "sucking it up" and carrying. At bare minimum my Kel-tec is in my pocket. If I am wearing pants there is a gun on me.

My wife used to ask me, "I'm going to ......, do you think I need to take my gun?"

Used to drive me nuts. I told her if I knew she was going to be in a gunfight, I would have her stay home.
