nitrogen, I think you did the right thing by skedaddling like you did, but I would offer a couple of comments on your own situation...
1) Unless you are in a job in which the risk of exposure to aggressive jerks is higher than normal, say LEO or Paramedic, or something like that, it is NOT normal to frequently get challenged by aggressive jerks. So I think you need to talk to some of your closer friends, and ask them, "Be honest with me, do I seem to ask for trouble?" It may well be that they see something in you that you either can't, or won't see in yourself, and their input might be instructive. But be prepared to hear something that you're not going to like hearing, and also be honest enough to deal with it appropriately if you do.
Funny you mention this. I Was talking to an old friend of mine today, and he basically said that I tend to "stare people down" when entering an area. I've always chalked it up to just being aware of my surroundings, but he said it tends to freak people out. Also apparently, my grooming and dress (Shaved head, and sunglasses, nice shirts and slacks) make me look like "A Mafia Hitman"
I''m not quite sure what to do about that.
Also, apparently I sneer a lot.

Thats probably caused by allergies and having a full nose many times.
Amazing to realize just how much little things I never paid attention to can affect others.
