suppressors

#1

Post by Tactical_Texan_CHL »

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a suppressor for .223 for coyote hunting. I've heard that using a suppressor on coyotes increases your success and is a blast! (no pun intended) Does anyone else here have a suppressor for anything? It's kind of a hastle to get one. I think it would be fun, but if others have experience with them and don't like them, then I'm going to find something way more productive to spend my money on.

It's not really that bad...you can go the trust route and sidestep a lot of the issues.

The trust also has the advantage of being transferable, so you can will it to your family.

I suggest you go out and listen to one before you put your bucks down...It's not as quiet as Hollywood would have you beleive...much the same as firing a 22

I have have them in the past, the paperwork is a pain to do and the wait is long and if you live in a place that has a anti Chief Leo then its almost impossible to one then.

I would actually like to do the living trust thing. I've read a lot of posts in different forums and was once referred to a lawyer's web site in Austin or SA that claims to be knowledgeable about setting up trusts for this purpose.

But I will remain unconvinced until someone can show me where this is allowed by law.

Regarding incorporation, I recall the following statement from one of those forums:

"If you incorporate JUST to buy class 3 devices, you will be visited by the BATFE on a regular basis."

Many LEO go this route in order to get their defense weapons

Its sad when the LEO cant get a pass from their own higher ups for firearms that could save their hineys!

The trust route is perfectly legal, and is accepted by the BATF. You can write it up yourself, or use legal councel. But as I posted earlier, go listen to one before we take any route to purchasing...be sure you want it.

Then you need to decide which one you're going to get. Weight, mounting, material, reduction rating, and other things should be taken into account.

I do use mine for hunting, but the yotes definately hear it ;-)

I may be off, but I have never heard of a need in law enforcement for either a suppressor a class III as a defensive weapon.

I would think the chief is not signing off because the officer is claiming it is for defense when it is really because he just wants one. Of course, that is really not an excuse either. We need to do away with getting the police permission on these.

I went the A/B trust route for both my TAC 65 (Tactical Innovation) and EVO 9 (AAC) with in the last year and each purchase door to door took less than 30 days. No need for fingerprints, photos, or the CLEO sign-off. So if it wasn't allowed, I guess I wouldn't have received my stamps by the approving authority.

More internet myths. :banghead: Does anyone really believe with the limited resources that the ATF has available they are going to chase down 1'000's of individuals who have gone the trust route. Of course if you are stocking up, you may raise an eyebrow but there are individuals that I deal with that have one heck of a collection and after many years no home visit.

The key with any suppressor is to use subsonic.

But subsonic and 223 seems oh so wrong!

:iagree: but if you want it as close to "Hollywood" quiet as possible, it's the only way other than firing wet.

Revocable Living Trusts will also bypass the LEO sign off. I've been trying to get the funds together for a Gemtech G5, but other things get in the way like my new M1 Garand etc ;-) I've already got two Phantom G5 bi-lock flash hiders for two of my uppers.

Talon also will assist with the paperwork for a fee as well. My friend in VA used Quicken Willmaker Plus to create his trust for his SBR. As a previous poster suggested, a .223/.556 round will make more noise than you think. You will definitely hear the crack of the round. On an HK USP Tactical however, all you hear is the action of the pistol (muuuhahahaaa).

Hope this helps!

I've read that suppressed weapons are popular when serving a warrant - particularly a no-knock warrant - when the object of the warrant has one or more dogs, especially those kept outside, either on a long tether or in a fenced yard. Pre-emptive use of the suppressed weapon on said canines has supposedly been referred to as "hush puppy."
