Re: Zoo Carry
Caldwell Zoo in Tyler is NOT posted, so I carry there all the time (we have an annual pass).
As someone noted above, I would rather face a tiger with a 9mm than to face him/her with nothing at all. However, there is probably more danger from the squirrel monkeys. A 9mm would be perfect for that!

Re: Zoo Carry
i JUST SAW A VIDEO where the guy in charge of the San Francisco zoo said thy are going to post signs advising visitors that the animals have feelngs and that they should not taunt the animals or basically the animals might decide they need kilt I thik they should just post a no claws or teeth zone requiring all zoo anmals to be disarmed henceforth and werewith most expeditiously
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Does anyone know if the Fort Worth Zoo is posted with 30.06?

Re: Zoo Carry
Yeah I am also curious as to whether anyone knows if either of the DFW area zoo's are posted or not?
Re: Zoo Carry
I was at the Dallas Zoo just after Xmas and saw NO antigun signs of any type, no 30.06 etc.

Its surprising that they didn't try to use a stun gun on the tiger since it was San Francisco!

Re: Zoo Carry
Would you have to use fireman's bunker gear suspenders to hold up your pants if you were carrying a Desert Eagle? I guess winter would be the best time to carry that, because you'd have to use a parka for a cover garment!

Re: Zoo Carry
Neither zoo is posted. Dallas used to have that wierd COD mutant hybrid sign that was past the ticket booths and posted at the kiosk inside where they check the tickets. Those signs came down when the law changed but never stopped me anyway. I don't recall FW ever being posted, legally or not. But they aren't as of November (when we were there last).RCP wrote:Yeah I am also curious as to whether anyone knows if either of the DFW area zoo's are posted or not?
My wife loves tigers, but when she saw the way out of the enclosure (their assurances aside..the gorillas couldn't get out either ) at Dallas she started carrying the 2# Model 36 loaded with +P+ every week. Now my daughter doesn't volunteer there any more, so trips to the zoos involve me more often than not and I carry a G23. The wife'll pick up the 36 again if her day involves a trip to the zoo without me.

Re: Zoo Carry
Come again? Gorilla's got out? We have family in Flower Mound, and we're up there every couple of months. We go to the zoo's almost every time with our 2 year old. I'm sure she'd look tender and juicy to a loose big cat! I never heard about gorillas getting out! And I never noticed the tiger enclosures at either zoo. I guess I'll make sure I'm carrying from now on there too. On a side note, if you like the zoo's, try the Dallas World Aquarium. It's great!

Re: Zoo Carry
Interestingly enough, from yesterday's Wall Street Journal:
In 2007, at least 10 animal escapes from U.S. zoos generated press coverage. Fugitives include a cheetah that scaled a fence at the St. Louis Zoo, a peacock that walked out of the Denver Zoo and took up residence on the front porch of a nearby house, and a geriatric spider monkey named Rena who jimmied open her cage door at the Dallas Zoo before being recaptured.
Still at large: an African white-backed vulture with a nine-foot wing span that squeezed through a fence in Dallas. "The general feeling was that she could survive out in the wild," says Karen Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the zoo, adding that the search is ongoing.

Re: Zoo Carry
It was a bad day at work for me. I had read an email that morning before I left that one of her friends were going to "see you there" (the zoo) that day. My wife had pointed out an area of concern, which she had shown me, to the zoo people and was blown off (my daughter was volunteering there at the time). She said they are only still inthere because they want to be.Tactical_Texan_CHL wrote:Come again? Gorilla's got out? We have family in Flower Mound, and we're up there every couple of months. Well this mean so-and-so who had been trouble in the tribe before was being taunted and decided it was time to come out and seek revenge. He injured 5 people in all. The worst of it was I was getting reports one of the victims was a 40ish redhead, and since he was in the area she frequents and I knew she would be in the middle of it, I almost lost my lunch.
He trapped a family and a mother and child in the aviary. He threw a boy that was in there with his family and broke a woman's arm and bit the head of her infant. Witnesses said his eyes bugged out and I still don't know how he faired. Another family was just outside of the aviary and the young son got out his multitool and his dad cut a slot in the aviary's fencing and evacuated the family. The zoo had a rifle but know one was on scene who could use it, no shoot team.
The DPD got there and went looking for the gorilla who had ducked into the trees. He eventually came crashing out of the woods dragging a stroller and hollering at the police who proceeded to drop him.
I had been calling my wife's cell phone and eventually she answered like nothing was wrong. I asked her where she was and she said at skating with the girls. I nearly lost my legs. It turned out that the email was in error and the day in question was the next day.
What I find interesting is in comparison between the SF tiger and our gorilla was the outcry about shooting him. I haven't heard that much from the tiger shooting and that from the such a liberal area. Maybe it is just our distance from the area.
Tactical Texan,
I live in Flower Mound. If yer up this way, drop me a note and we'll do Starbucks or something.
