Austin police have charged a man in a series of robberies in which investigators said he confronted victims outside their cars and asked whether they wanted to buy a gun before demanding money.

Brandon Christopher Rogers, 21, faces charges of robbery by threat and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Police said the incidents happened Dec. 29.

According to arrest affidavits, Rogers approached Sunilkumar Patel outside his house on West Avenue near downtown Austin as Patel was putting his child in his car. Rogers asked Patel if he wanted to buy a gun, but Rogers became angry when Patel declined.

Rogers then told Patel to give him his wallet, watch or cell phone, the affidavit said. Rogers then drove off in Patel's car.

Five minutes later, Rogers confronted a second man as he was unloading his car outside his house. He asked Winston Pfiester if he wanted to buy a gun and demanded Pfiester's wallet when he declined.

Rogers then demanded to enter the man's house and took a leather jacket and an Apple iPhone, an affidavit said.

Rogers then ran from the house, according to the affidavit.

Police said Rogers struck a final time several hours later in the parking lot of a North Austin Home Depot.

Police said Mark Berryhill, an employee at the store, was sitting in a 2007 Kia taking a break when Rogers asked him if he wanted to buy a gun. Berryhill ran inside the store and alerted co-workers about what happened.

Investigators said Rogers stole the Kia, which was then found by officers in a police helicopter several hours later near North Lamar and North Loop boulevards.

Police said Rogers demanded a car of someone near the intersection and left the Kia behind.

He was arrested a short time later.

Okay the panda thing is funny seriously tho i carry 24-7 literally except in the shower but i am thinking about getting a shower rig like somebody else has
I'm not phsychic maybe phsychotic but when i sleep i have a fiream within reach and am gonna buy a home defense shotgun with one of those bed racks im gonna make and keep loaded with either 4 or 00 buckshot for self defense

Hmm. If the Glock is dirty, you just need to open the bag, squirt a little shampoo in there and give it a good shake. This could work, it is a Glock after all.....

Personally, I find that a Glock in a zip-lock bag can be hard to get into if you have soap on your hands, so I just use a nylon belt with a Kydex holster and wear my Glock 23 and two extra mags. My BUG is a G26 in a Kydex ankle holster.

I also wear Gen 3 night vision goggles when in the shower. That way I can keep the lights off and any BG that enters the bathroom will be at a disadvantage since I can see, but he can’t…of course that’s assuming he can get past the 4 Rottweiler’s that are sitting outside the bathroom door and the automatic tear gas dispenser attached to the door as a bobby trap. You can never be too prepared…

When I go to bed at night, I don’t keep a pistol on the stand beside the bed…that would be way to slow to bring into play, and if the BG got past the dogs, the motion sensor, and the trip wired flares he could pick up the weapon and use it on me.

Instead, I have sown Velcro to a glove and glued the mating portion to a 1911 with an extended mag (may need the extra rounds you know!). That way I always have a weapon in my hands…how’s that for minimizing response time!

I’m sure the more tactical minded on the forum are thinking “TX Rancher, you seem to be a level headed tactical minded individual…why would you settle for a low capacity weapon????�. Well, primarily the decision was driven by safety concerns. You see the 1911 has a manual safety, so I don’t shoot myself by accident.

I know the deeper thinkers in the group are wondering “But what about if you are attacked at night by a group of Ninjas…10 rounds seems a little lite, even if they are 45acp�. Good question since that’s a real possibility in today’s world.

I feel ok since the 1911 will only be used to fight my way to the belt fed M-60 which I keep in a biometric access safe in the corner of the bedroom. Ah, I can hear the questions “But won’t it take time to open the safe? Won’t the Ninjas get you in that time?�. Probably not, after all, that’s what the smoke grenades and flash-bangs are for.

Now I’m sure some of you are saying “But Rancher, sure your covered in the shower and when you go to bed, but this thread is about protecting yourself when you go to your car…what about then?�

Another good question…and a lot tougher tactical situation. In the house, I can use all manner of bobby traps to catch the BG’s, but outside those nasty liberals hold sway and actually think their children and pets have a right to live, so anything containing HE connected to a trip wire is out (well actually, not completely, but I would never admit to that on an open forum ).

You also have the problem that snipers could be lurking anywhere up to 2,000 meters away. Sure, I could probably spot up to two of them, but what about the 3rd, 4th, and 5th one? It’s just way to risky without Tac-Air backup.

So my solution is similar to the throw down wallet…I have a car that’s parked in my driveway, but I never use it. My real transportation (yes of course it’s a fully armored Hummer) is parked in a different location each day and never closer than 2 miles to my house. I also have multiple sets of tags for it and change them around regularly. What about the paint job you ask…it gets the latest camo style every 2 months.

In the house I have dug a tunnel that runs to an alleyway 300 meters away and exits through a dummy trash bin that I had put there. Of course there are several other tunnels and exit points, but I won’t disclose them here…after all, this is an open forum and I have to be concerned about OPSEC (I can’t be sure who, but I know they’re out to get me).

I live in a nice part of Austin, but that doesn't mean I should let my guard down anywhere.
