Ok I take that back.
I don't like anything at all about this new look..its too big and hard to read posts. The index especially is hard to tell what is unread. Its just less user friendly than others and than it was before.

Go to the User Control Panel. Click Board Preferences on the left side. Change the board style to subsilver2. It is very close to the previous version.

Your post didn't sound the least bit critical to me. It's a valid concern. I wasn't crazy about the default setting, and was a little bit distressed when I noticed that subsilver2 hadn't been installed. I had the same issues with the default that you listed.

Thank all that's holy for that, because IMHO the new look....well I'll be nice. Just glad I can get the old look back.

Where is the "mark all posts read" button

Thats how I would filter...read the posts..then mark them all read..the new threads would then show up in a different color

On my screen in subSilver2 theme, it's on the upper right of the "main" page right above the "Last Post" column. Since I'm a site administrator, what I'm seeing may be different from your screen, but I believe that part would be the same.

I'm curious about the thread icons (the bell, the "splotch" for a sticky thread, etc.)

As was the case in the last version of phpBB, the icons "zoom" for threads you've posted in, which makes them easier to find. But what's with the new black dot on the left side of those icons?

What is the criteria for 'View New Posts'?

This option is good for me to stay caught up with the board, but I have watched the new posts increase in number to 77.

Twice, I tried 'marking forums read', thinking it might clear what the board considers 'new posts'.

It had no effect.

This isn't a problem, as the new posts are at the start of the two pages of posts.

I was just wondering if there was a way to clear the list and start over.

My use pattern is such that I leave and reenter the board many times each day, while staying logged in.

In my experience, it's closing the browser completely and then re-opening that clears that list.

I leave my computer on almost all the time, at least for several days at a time.

There are always a half dozen windows open, so the browser is never closed.

When I retired last night, the 'new posts' were at 79.

When I returned to the forum this morning, there were 46 'new posts'.

So it appears the number will manage itself.

Question...

What is the significance of the differnces between those members logging in from "Google" and those comeing in from "Yahoo"???

Down at the bottome where we can all see who's logged into the forum... The list is divided into two groups...One has those listed in the "Google [Bot]" and those under the "Yahoo [Bot]"...

What does the "Bot" tag mean???

Just curious...

The bots are programs that poke around and check on postings to be used by Googles and Yahoos search engines. Bot is a contraction for Robot. Harmless creatures that have very little to do with those that are already here, but extremely useful for those who are looking to find out what is going on here.

When you're looking at the list of new posts, what is the meaning when the text scrolls in the icon to the left of the message?

Someone reading that thread? or posting?

Interesting...Something we should all keep in mind, with all the potential legal ramifications that have been presented here in this forum before...Now we know ro"Bot"s are keeping tabs on us...
