UPDATE: PROBLEMS RESOLVED

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I drove to Belton to attend my niece's college graduation and look what you guys have done to the forum while I was gone!! Just kidding folks.

Here are the issues you folks have presented:

SQL Errors: This is the same problem we had with the database before the conversion. When I checked, the same table was corrupted, so I did the repair again. I hope this isn't going to be an on-going problem. Since it happed first with the long stable Version 2.0.22, I don't think it's a problem with Olympus. Also, it occurred sometime after about 5:30 AM today, which is after the automatic backup for the server. I don't see how a backup of all of the site, including the SQL database, could corrupt one table in the database, but the timing is curious. It's fixed now and I hope it stays that way, but please let me know if you still have trouble. I waiting to see if it happens again tomorrow morning after the server backup.

subSilver2 not available This was my fault. I installed it on TexasIDPA.com, but forgot to do so here. It's now installed and you can get to it in your User Control Panel under Board Preferences.

Can't reach the forum using old links. This too was my fault. I forgot to change one setting after testing the board in a different directory. It's fixed now.

Firefox not opening links in a new tab. This is happening with me too and I have no idea why. This is a setting within Firefox, so I don't have a clue how Olympus can override that setting. I'll poke around on the phpBB website a little later and see if this is a reported issue. I want that feature back also.

Sorry for the problems folks, especially the ones I caused.

The new format looks great.

Did we lose a few members in the changover? The last I recall we were up to around 2450.

Thanks Charles!

Search still doesn't seem to be working, anytime you search for word. (Just searching for posts by an author works fine.)

Trying to search for posts with a specific word gives the following error:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Can't open file: 'phpbb_search_wordmatch.MYI'. (errno: 145) [1016]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

We must have; I thought we were bumping up on 2500 myself. I don't have a clue how that happened, unless we had 100 or so that hadn't activated their registration. That's the only think I can think of that would possibly cause someone not to make the transfer.

I'm going to have to re-index the posts!! That's the last step in the conversion and it ran for almost 10 hours last night and this morning. It was still running when I got up at 5:00 AM and I thought it was finished, but the icon was stuck in a "do loop." (He tech guys, are they still called "do loops?") Apparently, it wasn't finished. I'll check to see if I can disable the search feature so I can re-index with the Board up and running. If I can't I'll have to take the Board down again while the doing the re-index. I'll check now and report back.

Thanks,
Chas.

Edited to add: I cannot access the Search files to re-index; I get the same error message. I'll post a query on phpBB's website and try to get this fixed. It may take a while, but I'll get it done as soon as I get a response.

I'm too old for this!! Okay, I fixed the "search" problem. There was yet another table in the SQL database that was corrupted. I was able to fix it quickly and the search feature now works. I also realized that the post indexing had not finished, but I can continue it with the board operational, so I'm doing that now. Although the word-search feature is now working, the results may not be completely accurate until it finished the re-indexing.

Sorry folks, I thought I had this thing de-bugged before I launched Olympus.

LOL! I wasn't expecting such a quick fix! On the serious side, I've been involved (professionally) in migrating forum sites to new platforms, and several of those migrations have taken weeks. Literally. So, no worries, thanks for all of your hard work, and you're doin' fine.

Links do not open in a new window in Internet Explorer either. It is not just a Firefox problem.

Is there a way to change the board from British English to US English? I don't have that option in my profile.

BTW, Charles, you are doing great working through all these litlle bugs!

That's the only English option offered. I'll still reading the phpBB website trying to find out about the Tabs issue, as well as losing about 150 members in the transition.

Nice job of getting everything up and running so quickly. Hopefully you won't have too many bugs to deal with.

Well, for better or worse, looks like I found the answer to the "opening links in a new window/tab" question. It apparently is no longer a built in option for phpBB 3.0, and requires an edit.

Thanks, I'll try to add this later today or tonight. I still don't see how this overrides the setting in Firefox or IE7.

I appreciate you running this down.

I added the code to make links open in a new tab. Please let me know if you have any trouble. I've tested it on several links and everything seems to be working fine. I just want to make sure it doesn't cause any other problems.

Thanks Charles!
The 150 "missing" members did make the trip to Olympus with us after all. Olympus handles inactive members (those who have not activated their registrations) differently in that they are not counted in the total number of members. Until to do, they will never show up in the total member count. I'm going to start deleting them after 90 days. People can always register again.
