Breaking News..."Wife Unit" busted!
Got a call just now...Poor Wife Unit...Everybody go "awwwwww shuckatellies!"
Ok, now for the meat...
She was heading east on Beltway 8 towards school this afternoon, and was "zipping" along as she does most days...
A truck in front of her changed lanes and slowed down significantly to illustrate a substancial difference in speed between hers and the other vehicle which was duly noted by said Pct 7 Constable...
(Picture the perfect take down of said offending vehicle)
Wife Unit does her duty...Pulls over and plays the "Is there a problem officer?"
Deputy -- "Yes ma'am, DL, registration and proof of insurance please."
Wife Unit -- "Why yes, here you go." (She includes the CHL, but never carries anyway to which Steve goes as usual)...
Deputy -- "Why do you have this?"
Wife unit -- "I dunno, I just do." (Steve wanted her to say, "Because you guys are too heavy to carry.")
Deputy -- "I "clocked" you going 83 in a 65..."
Wife Unit -- "I drive a Toyota Yaris...I don't think it can go that fast..."
Deputy -- "Well I agree, I was going to stop that truck, but YOU passed him up so fast, I figured somebody will stop, and YOU did! Thank you very much..." (Steve goes )
Deputy -- "Let me go run this to see if you have any warrants out on you, I'll be right back."
Wife Unit -- [sniffles] Ok...(Steve goes: Don't CRY! it never works!!!)
Deputy -- "Ma'am I'm writing you up because you were speeding doing 80 mph, in a 65mph zone, please sign here, this is not an admission of guilt, just an agreement to appear before their heinous, the Judge!"
Wife Unit -- "Thank you..."
Deputy -- "Thank you ma'am, please slow down now."
Wife Unit -- "buh bye..." (hits speed dial for the "big daddy, steve-miester")
Wife Unit -- "Guess what?"
Stevie-D -- "What?"
The moral of our story:
Never assume that piece of plastic will get you anything but a free bowl of soup at the very most...
Christmas shopping season really stinks to get a traffic ticket...To which this $155 will hopefully go towards a drivers safety course which I hope the court will allow her to take...She hasn't gotten a ticket in about two years...So one of us was due I suppose...
Don't cry, it only makes them write faster!!!
Be caucious in laying in a joke about LEO being too heavy to carry if you have a CHL...Some may actually be too heavy, but that's beside the point...
Reside yourself to getting a ticket, that way your expectations will be met, and your attitude will be in check...
Try to not let your spouse know you got the ticket for as long as possible...Honesty in this case is not the best policy...Pay the fine, go to court, take the defensive driving course (the fun one, not the boring one!)...Only let the surprise be known by a rate increase on your insurance, and then go along with it scratching your head at the same time...
Then, go on with yer life...But don't cry about it...It only makes it worse!!!
Geesh, sometimes I have to wonder...
Good thing I have a wonderful sense of humor...Otherwise, I may have gone postal years ago...

Well, I voted to take the defensive driving class as the quickest and easiest method, but you might want to consider fighting the ticket. If it happened as was reported, he admitted to never getting a valid clock on her. He cannot prove how fast she was going, or even if she was going over the limit. After all, he claims he got her doing a speed that he admits the car won't go. Then changes it to just her passing the truck. The radar speed came from somewhere. If her car won't go that fast, it must have come from the truck. If the truck was going that fast and her car won't, she could not have passed it. Something is wrong when he testifies to all of this (and subpoena his video if the stop - it will prove what he said).

I voted "Go to court and fight it". She might get lucky and the officer not show up resulting in a dismissal. If he shows up, then ask for the deferred ajudication or take the safety class.
You left out the best choice. 'Move out in the country' . I got stopped just the other day (first time since I can't remember when) by a sheriff.
62 in a 45mph zone.
I pulled over, shut off the truck, rolled down the window and waited with both hands on the steering wheel while he U turned and pulled up behind me.
After the "Howdy, nice day etc.". He asked for my license & insurance.
I said: "I need to tell you I have a TX CHL and I'm armed".
He said: "That's OK".
I gave him my documents. He went back to the car and returned after a few mins.
He handed me a WARNING ONLY. Asked me to," please observe the speed limits and be careful".
I thanked him, told him I would pay attention to my speed and I went on to Popeye's, 12 miles down the road, for the Tues. special.(two pieces of fried chicken for 89 cents)
It could have been an expensive lunch treat! And probably would have been in Houston!
Stevie D, You are concerned enough about your wife's safety to encourage her to get a TX CHL and you let her drive a Yaris?
Regards, OE

Hey, its a zippy little car...I like it...Its the sadan version, not that crunched up looking hatchback model...A thimble full of gas will get you to the moon and back...OverEasy wrote:Stevie D, You are concerned enough about your wife's safety to encourage her to get a TX CHL and you let her drive a Yaris?
All kidding aside, I do not really enjoy or condone busting the chops of our Law Enforcement community and the way they do their jobs most of the time...I know that most do not like doing dedicated traffic enforcement because it is used mainly as a revenue generating tool by thier bosses...Some can dissagree, but thats just the way I see it...
I just like poking fun at my wife because she is such an interesting driver, you should see the claw marks left by my fingers in the dash and other places where I (and others) hold onto while she is behind the wheel...
She really is a hoot, as some of you know...
I feel we are going to not fight this one, and take the drivers safety course to handle this one...
As anyone really knows, 65 on the Beltway is for woosies!!! And no one drives in the right lane except for timid people!!!
Just be prepared to pay for it...One way or another

I believe I could make a good case with these points...I agree...But in my previous post, you can see this was more of a "tease the wife" thread, and will do the right and responsible thing and dramatically capitulate to the state and my wife...srothstein wrote:Well, I voted to take the defensive driving class as the quickest and easiest method, but you might want to consider fighting the ticket. I am thinking of going back to school and getting that law degree (much to the shudders of our current lawyer contingent ), but I feel I would not be very successful because I am such a nice guy...
Steve runs once again for effective cover...

I have an idea who that was...
If my DH had posted that story about me, then trust me, he would be sharing sleeping space with the doggie.
