Called DPS today. - My assigned "technician" is waiting for the "investigative report" to be completed. And I probably won't see my license until "after the new year".
Frustrating.

Re: I'm waiting, and it's agonizing.
I believe I am now the senior member of the waiting room, with 73 days under the belt.
I've left two messages with the "technician" that has my file, and she hasn't returned my calls. So I drove up there today to investigate for myself. Apparently Tamika has been out most out most of the week, with no sign of when she'll be returning. Excellent.

Hang in there - you may be the current senior member, but you still have a long ways to go to make all time senior. Here's to hoping you don't make it
Re: I'm waiting, and it's agonizing.
Looks like I got you beat as far as being senior member. I called DPS last month 60 days after they cashed my check and was told that they didn't start processing my app till Nov 6. They said they were still waiting on background check and to check back 60 days from Nov 6. I called them again yesterday and they are still waiting on my background check. The lady I spoke to said she would find out what was going on and that I should call back next week.

That is not correct. They have 60 days from receipt of all materials - which could be as much as 90 days from when you submit everything (if I have my numbers right), but you start the clock when you submit. They don't start the clock when they get started.

Re: I'm waiting, and it's agonizing.
I've been waiting for my background check since the 50's (days). Travis county is notoriously slow. I've been a little scared/confused about something that my "technician" has been saying. From what I gather, as a rule of thumb, if you have an arrest that is less than five years old, they perform an "investigative report", which is even more thorough than the standard checks. She said it could also take longer than 90 days from when they recieved all my materials. I dont want to believe her, because I was relying on that 90 days rule, but this makes me think she's right.
If anyone has any opinions on this please share.

"...... if a question exists with respect to the accuracy of the application materials or the eligibility of the applicant, except that the department shall complete the record check and investigation not later than the 180th day after the date the department receives the application materials from the applicant."
From the bottom of page nine of the handbook.

Re: I'm waiting, and it's agonizing.
I don't have the handbook with me... but the 60/90 day thing is in statute. That doesn't mean that they obey it as there are no penalties for missing the timeline. Maybe someone else will have some information on that 180 day thing but it doesn't sound right - nor like anything I have ever heard before.
Re: I'm waiting, and it's agonizing.
So have you got your plastic yet Winston33? It is unbelievable how long Travis county takes for background checks. Even the last lady I talked to at DPS was complaining about how long they take. Hang in there.
