Keltec pf9

Had the oppurtunity to fire the PF9 and I think I might like it more than my sig .380 acp. Anyone know how the Kahr 9mm's stack up to it?

I can't answer your question, but I have one of my own. :) Have you shot a Kel-Tec P3-AT? Was just curious how the PF9 compared.

FYI This month's American Rifleman has a nice article on the PF9 (page 68) For what it's worth there's also an article on the Walther PPS which is a comparable small 9mm.

I bought a used PF-9 and it is easier to shoot than the P3AT. I can't compare it to the Kahr since I've never shot that one. The PF-9 is very light and you almost forget you're carrying. Its size is a little large for pocket carry unless you have large pockets.

My PF-9 has a "walking ejector pin" as described on the Keltec forum http://www.ktog.org and just recently the magazine pops out after every shot. It is going back to the factory for warranty repairs.

My main carry is a Kahr PM9. Post the 200 round break-in period, I have had ZERO FTF or jams (only 3 jams during the break-in.) It is a great pistol and I am happy with the performance.

The reason I went with the PM9 over the PF9 was the feel. The PM9 fit better in my hand than the PF9. I also think the PM9 is an overall better built gun, but then again, the price reflects it. I also like that you can feed it a steady diet of +P unlike the PF9.

Most folks I have talked to and that post here love their PF9, and have had minimal problems with them. So, if it feels good in the hand, you probably can't go wrong with the lower price. You can use the extra scratch for buying the many holsters you will go through until finding your magic combination for comfort and draw.

Understatement of the history. I love my PF9, but I would prefer a Kahr. Yet, like you said, the price is key. The average Kel-Tec will run you <$300 while the average Kahr will come out just shy of $1,000.

Ouch! That sounds a little high. I bought mine new at the Big Town Gun Show for $589 + tax with night sights. However, after buying multiple holsters (Kangaroo, IWB, OWB, pocket, etc.) the total price may be getting close.

I think you might have Kahr mixed up with the Rohrbaugh R9, which does retail for just under 1k

I assume your Sig in .380 is either a P230 or a 232.

I have 2 pf-9's and a sig 232. The Sig sits in my gun vault. The PF-9 stays at my side.

The pf-9 is quite a bit smaller and shoots the 9mm, where the sig shoots the .380.

I will say that the sig is a fine weapon, neat looking, all steel in construction (read heavy), but with a European mag release (bottom of grip).

Go with the PF-9. You can buy 2 PF-9's for the cost of one Sig 232.

I'm a huge Kel-Tec fan myself, but we are having a hard time getting our hands on them right now. All of the distributors seem to be out, or all they have are already allocated. I expect the Kel Tec prices to start creeping up soon. That's just my dimwit opinion, bear in mind.

We just ordered a bunch of Skyy's to carry. We were selling Taurus as our low end, but we have literally had so many problems and returns with the ones that we have sold, that we really don't want to have much to do with them anymore.

The Skyy is based on the Kel Tec P11 frame, basically, but the major differences are that the Skyy has an external safety, which allows them to have an 8lb trigger pull. The slide is stainless, and it comes with two magazines, both with the finger extension. All of that and its a few bucks cheaper than the KelTec. Funny thing is that the Skyy's are made about 100 miles away from where KelTec pumps theirs out. Talk about some unfriendly competition!

They haven't arrived yet, so I can't comment on them, but I expect them to be pretty cool little backups or pocket carries. One negative about them is that they did say that Skyy Vodka is suing every company named Skyy, including some limo service in SoCal, for copyright infringement, so they are going to be forced to change their name soon. I haven't been able to tickle the new name out of them yet, but as soon as I do, I'll be sure to let you fellas know!

I bought my PF-9 at Fountain Firearms off Hwy6 & Bissonett in Houston. They had a few of them and other Kel-Tecs as well Under $300. They even stock extra mags for the PF9. Or did when I was there a couple months ago.

I could spend 24 hours a day and all of my money in Fountain Firearms. Great store and great folks to deal with. That guy in there named Sloan is a pretty cool cat. Its one of those stores that you could walk into and find obscure parts and accessories in stock, without having to resort to the internet.

I have owned and carried both the PF9 (G model) and the Kahr CW9. The Kahr is only fractionally bigger in Length, Height, & Width, and does this with a half inch longer barrel and only +3 ounces. The trigger on the Kahr is far superior. The slightly larger size and better trigger made the Kahr easier and faster to shoot. Accuracy at 25 ft was about the same. The fit and finish on the Kahr is better. The reliability on the Kahr was slightly better... I had no FTF/FTE on the Kahr and only 2 FTF on the Keltec as it got dirty. Not much difference there really. Long term reliability would have to be given to the Kahr. With almost 500 rds the Kahr still looked and felt like new. After only 300 rds, the PF9 was beginning to show signs of wear on the mag follower and mag release (not bad, but enough to be a concern if the pistol was going to be shot regularly). The CW9 used cost about $100 more than the PF9, but for me the CW9 was worth every penny.
