Solid silver bullets?

Are there solid silver bullets (real usable bullets) available? I know it's expensive, but wouldn't mind having a few for the... wolves and vampires, you know - I am not kidding.

They are available as loaded cartridges. The question came up in rec.guns a while back, and someone found a web site.

They're not phenomenally expensive. Silver is about $15 per Troy ounce, so the metal in the bullet costs about two bucks.

A reloader could make them from junk silverware and jewelry.

Now I'm not a bulletsmith, first of all. I did take some advanced chem in school, so this discussion is mostly theoretical.

It'd be difficult, because the melting point of silver is almost 1761ºF, while Lead is 600ºF.

You'd need molds made of steel or chrome or Iron, not to mention a good heat source. You'd have to make sure the mold got hot enough, otherwise the silver won't flow properly; making a cruddy bullet. Getting the silver isnt hot enough, because if the mold is colder, the silver will solidify in clumps when it hits the mold.

Silver is also not as malliable as lead, so rifling won't get a chance to really grab it, so your silver bullet would probably not be very accurate.
You might want to consider alloying the silver with some other, softer metal to improve accuracy, but this alloy's effectiveness on werewolves might be lessened.

Now I wonder how coating the silver bullet in copper or lead would do, but this gets me out of my comfort zone of theoretical discussion, at least without trying it.

Which might be fun someday.

I'd go with black powder and patch a silver ball. Of course the silver bullet story was created in the "The Wolfman" in 1941 starring Lon Chaney Jr. He was beaten to death by his father with a silver handled cane.

actually goodbullet molds are made from steel and if your casting 200 grn bullets you could get 2 per ounce of silver and if silver is say 30.00 an ounce that's 15.00 per bullet,and if your loading 45 acp 7 rnd mag +1 that's 120.00 in silver for 8 bullets i hope you can kill one with each shot,or killing werewolves can become real expensive real quick

Actually, I plan to load 55 grain .223 bullets, you add powder and primer, it's about $4/pop. Reloading save money, right?

Rifle has better accuracy and longer range on werewolves and vampires, especially I think the 21 feet rule does not apply to wolves etc. as they run much faster than human. their momentum alone probably would kill you. Also a SureFire to mimic the sunlight is a must.

You could probably get an effective anti werewolf round by packing the tip of a 45 acp JHP with silver dust and sealing it with hard wax or plastic. Simplest would probably be to cut up silver chain and loading it into 12 gauge shotgun rounds.

Just read this:

I don't know about werewolves, however I went on a Lone Ranger kick as a kid and would have done anything for some silver bullets... I would still like to get ahold of some for my Ruger Vaquero...
