Random question. I know carrying at professional sporting events is a no-no, but what about a sport that technically has no payouts during early rounds?
Example: 50 people/animals/aliens compete to move on to the next round on a different day. No actually winnings, just advance.
Under the letter of the law, would these rounds still be off limits even though the only “winning” is the right to advance to the next round on a different day?
Like I said, random.

Re: Professional sporting events
Trivia night at buffalo wild wings is not a professional sporting event.
After that, a more specific example would be better.

Re: Professional sporting events
Haha. Ok. I was just in a weird mood when I posted this.
It’s a Cutting horse event at Will Rogers in Fort Worth. First rounds are scored just for advancement. No payouts until later rounds on a different day.
Obviously the typical clientele are likely not going to care but just a thought that crossed my mind.

IANAL but I will opine that if these are PRCs, then it is a pro event regardless of the "prize".

Re: Professional sporting events
I have road raced cars at various levels:
-SCCA Club (amateur racing, trophies/medals although some $, usually contingency, some of it from the auto manufacturer)
-SCCA Pro Racing / Trans Am (professional racing, trophies and $$$$ to 7th from what I recall)
-NASCAR (I know, I know, some folks wouldn't call it professional racing, but it is! )
Would a LEO know the difference? Never got wanded / checked going in as a racer, different experience going through spectator entrances though.

Re: Professional sporting events
In years past, there are no wands/detectors at Will Rogers and there are so many alternative entrances during early rounds. Only days the main entrance is used are for the semi and finals when they actually sell admission tickets. All other days are free so all doors are open.
It was just a random curiosity about pro sports and venues.
Thanks for humoring my curiosity
